Ah you got me where I live! After my parents took me to the Stanley Warner Cinerama theater for HOW THE WEST WAS WON my life changed. I saved my allowance every week, told my parents I was going to the local theater and hopped a bus to Hollywood to see the matinee of this week after week after week. It showed me cinema could do more than simply distract. Alfred Newman proved how powerful film music could be and introduced me to stereo and the gatefold cover (I still have my first copy). What's more I never heard as great a sound with all those mag playbacks under the theater until I got onto a professional mixing stage, with those playbacks in a separate room.

I've outgrown many things since then, including this film, but the score remains impressive on many levels to this day.

Those were the days, when going to BIG movies like this was a real EVENT.

Today, sadly, they don't know the meaning of the word Showmanship !

Yep. Today going to the movies is like going to the super market. Actually the super market has more showman ship these days.. However there are down here a few small independent theaters that still have some idea of showmanship..

.....The Kim Darby/Mitch Miller style of singing - mixed chorus- has gone completely out of style.....

I can't remember EVER hearing Kim Darby sing!

Did she have an interesting vocal style?

Did she sing in TRUE GRIT?

smile

I'll bet if they let John Wayne have his way and cast Karen Carpenter in the role, she would have had a number.
