I don't particularly like that there are 24 tracks of score though. 12 longer tracks had been better.

Mancina helped pioneer the 90s action sound with Zimmer.

And yet neither of them is in prison.

How do you know? You haven't met them there?

So, according to Dave Metzger's website, "everything orchestral [was] arranged and orchestrated by Dave". It is the first time I am reading a statement like this. I don't know too much about the art of orchestration, but I wouldn't really associate it with non-orchestral parts. Is Metzger trying to say that all the orchestral parts were, in fact, his writings?

I think he's trying to say -- is saying, in fact -- that he arranged and orchestrated the orchestral parts of Mancina's score.

This comes out Tuesday and I haven't been able to find any samples of the score yet. All I've heard is the trailer music.

Been listening to this all morning and really enjoying it. Luckily, the trailer music is actually the theme for the film and that track is included on the album. The rest of the score has some elements of Speed and Twister and is actually a good listen. I hear some of the recent Henry Jackman MV style in the score as well, but so far so good...

Not bad. I still adore the first track and this has a nicer mix than the trailer. More real instruments, I think.

The middle had a Bolt / Cars 2 / Bond-ish vibe to it.

I really like that choral bit at the end. Looking forward to the whole thing.

Well, the 'planes' track, which is heard in that trailer montage, is the real standout piece. The rest is really an MV teamplay written all over it. It sounds really like Henry Jackman's , and Dave Metzger's orchestral contribution, oftenly done for John Powell, is really obvious, concerning that one can simply judge this one of Powell's. Cant wait to hear the rest

Been listening to this today and it is above average for sure. It was a bit jarring to hear all the rock parts because they weren't typical 2010 and on sound but more 1990s sound. The theme is nice but I would have preferred a more pure orchestral sound.

This is a fun score. Epic and now Planes? Finally hearing some scores I can get into.
Very enjoyable, and a huge improvement over whats been coming out this last decade.

I'm really loving this score and its 90s stylistics. So glad to see Mancina on a big project again.

My two cents: http://synchrotones.wordpress.com/2013/08/07/planes

Thanks,

to my ears is kind of a return to the 90s MV fun (but cheap) type of musical scoring... A celebration for their fans, I presume (not for me).

It's good, but it never gets back to the level of fantastic that is the title track.

Not on the level of say The Rocketeer or Superman but it still soars above most action adventure scores as of late. As usual the tracks are too short so it doesn't really build any thematic steam. Thus I once again took it into WavePad and created my own suites that (IMO) does wonders for the over all listening experience.
