....That clip sums up why I cannot tolerate "next gen" Trek - just a repetative pile of meandering, touchy-feely, simpering, talky, beige, vanilla, new age, sandal wearing, de-sexed, decaffeinated, DE-KIRKED, baloney.
Star Trek for people who rub crystals while sitting barefoot under rickety home made pyramid structures. Star Trek for people who give pet names to their Apple Macs. Star Trek for people who....
....wh...wh...where are my pills??????
Anyway, the last Trek movie under Abrams was a helluva big improvement on that load of old yogurt.
And I thought I was rough on them! 
I think what finally popped my balloon was how the character of Riker was ultimately treated. Not that he was ever much of a character, but he ended up literally "God" to the whole known Universe. He saved the derrieres of EVERYbody, every friend, every foe.
And then one day he was treated like the bottom of a shoe (by Ronny Cox) which was duly accompanied by the same old background aural earwax recycled down the road on DS9 and Voyager and Enterprise.
The movies forever lost me at the "save the whales" moment. Nobody could top Mr. Montalban anyway.
Ron Jones uplifted many a sorry episode, and I'm saving up for his box set. (I just got the TOS box almost a month back, a reminder of where Trek later went so wrong).

I have to admit your description of NG isn't far off. LOL But that doesn't make Nu Trek an improvement. Just bad to the opposite extreme.
