Yep.

They exist. I just discovered them

And, yes, I am going to try to figure out some sort of rudimentary chord progression for it and play it on my ukulele.

As a reminder, here's the theme.

Are you gonna simulate the electronic "Byew!"s?

So I tracked down the lyrics, by Pamela Phillips Oland, in her book the Art of Writing Great Lyrics. http://amzn.to/19SKpZv

She seems to have thought the show took place in outer space.

She also has one section that doesn't scan at all, so I sort of vamped to leave it in and preserve the final rhyme.

And so, dear friends, in my continuing effort to embarrass my children (look for a cameo appearance by my horrified son), I give you Love is the Magic.

Good effort. Thanks for that.

Perhaps they were keeping their options open at the time for the pilot movie. Buck Rogers has 'Suspension' as the song so following a similar pattern. Not quite sure why it was called Suspension though unless it is an oblique reference to Buck Rogers being frozen in time.

I'll need to listen again but do the lyrics to 'Logan's Run' have anything to do with the TV series?

And here are the lyrics. (by Pamela Phillips Oland)

You tell me what they have to do with the show. (Spoiler alert: nothing at all.)

Love is the Magic

Someday…deep in the silence
Love will be music…to fill the heavenly skies
Like the stars fill our eyes
Our love and laughter will surely live on
Here in our love song
Touch me, I’m what you make me
Your kisses take me…to an incredible place
Out of time, out of space
Where there is no dream too crazy
To long for…and believe in
Wild impossible schemes may all come true
For love is the magic
And I’ve found its secret…in you

Hey Neil ...

Just found your thread, and your youtube video ...

I am doing my own cover of this theme music, along with lyrics. It's going to be a retro 80's synthpop style, with all the electronic "pew pew pew" bits in it of course. Can't believe that no one has recorded an officialy released version of this!

The show did have a cast member from the movie of The Sound Of Mucus, so if it had gotten a second season Heather Menzies could have been drafted to cut a single.

She seems to have thought the show took place in outer space.

In fairness, with its ratings it's not like too many people at the time would have noticed she was wrong.

1. Zooba is actually covering the FILM theme, not the TV theme. (I did my own cover of this on ukulele, too.)

2. David, you are no longer my friend because you imply that my version does not DESERVE a release. Now adding you to the IGNORE list.

1. My mistake. I 'fess up that I read the title too fast.

2. I made the wrong comparison and held to account for the making the right one, even if it was wrong? I'm confused.

In any case, I was comparing Zooba's to that of the professional musician who posted here. The humor was meant to be comparing Zoob's version with someone who "knows from do-re-mi". wink

Okay, I see the comparison to the "officially released" part of that response. I get it now. Sleight retracted. Friendship restored.

Thanks, Neil!

I already have an instrumental version of this up on my Soundcloud ... and another musical friend of mine is going to be working on adapting the lyrics to the song and recording vocals.

Interestingly enough: The line which begins with "wild impossible schemes will come true" (I think that's the one) does not fit in with the melody of the TV theme, as heard on the TV show. My adaptation will be to use that line to replace "To long for and believe in ..." when the melody comes back in the second time. smile

So anyway here's what I have so far. More soon, with luck. smile

The debut episode had very good ratings! It was CBS who screwed with the show by pre-empting it all over the place, and making it difficult for people to watch the show. An all too familiar fate for sci-fi shows it seems.

Yep, that line didn't scan at all, so I sort of cheated it into my version.

And I love that you've incorporated the Love Theme from the film into your instrumental!

The opening motif with the synth horn section is also from the opening of the movie as well. In fact, I was thinking of going back and seeing if I could get that really weird electronic synth pulse sound to go over it at the beginning too. smile

Funny thing is, I have searched everywhere on the internet for the lyrics to the TV theme, and far as I can tell, you were the only search result. Seems Amazon decided to omit the lyrics from their preview of the book by the woman who wrote them. frown But then that's the beauty behind us bringing to life words never before heard.

Apparently that was also what did for Crazy Like A Fox (hard to imagine CBS messing up a detective show with a "mature" lead actor, but it happened).

I ordered the book via interlibrary loan specifically so i could see the lyrics.

Here I thought I was the only person who used interlibrary loan to sate my film music needs.

Nerds of a feather! smile
