Quartet Records is proud to present its new release: the delicious, lovely score of John Addison for

THE AMOROUS ADVENTURES OF MOLL FLANDERS
Music Composed and Conducted by John Addison
Limited Edition of 1000 units

Marcel Hellman’s 1965 production of The Amorous Adventures of Moll Flanders was, like the 1963 Best Picture winner, Tom Jones, based on a well-known piece of 18th-century English literature. But in spite of a mostly A-list cast that included Kim Novak, Angela Lansbury, George Sanders, Vittorio De Sica and Richard Johnson, the film failed to garner much critical or popular success. Directed by Terence Young (who had recently helmed the first two James Bond pictures), Moll Flanders was a well-crafted and luxuriantly mounted production that fell short of expectations.

The only carry-over from Tom Jones (other than actor High Griffith in a secondary role) was the composer. John Addison had recently won an Oscar for his Jones score, and he applied the same combination of wit and heart to his music for Moll Flanders. A classically trained composer, Addison merged appropriate period flavor with a contemporary sensibility and a wonderful feel for comedy. As one reviewer put it, he managed to make “entertaining bedfellows of the harpsichord and saxophone.” The same writer described Addison’s principal melodic idea for the film (“Lovely as She”) as “a soaring and romantic theme which would not disgrace Max Steiner.”

Quartet Records, in collaboration with Paramount Pictures, is pleased to present the score for The Amorous Adventures of Moll Flanders for the first time ever on CD, sourced from the first generation master tapes used for the long out-of print RCA album. The LP assembly was created by John Addison himself with his usual good taste—and includes music that was not heard in the film. The package includes a 16-page booklet, generously illustrated with film stills, with notes on the film and score by Frank K. DeWald.

Although the film is not especially well-known, Addison’s music is sure to delight fans of delectable melody and spirited comedy—whether they’ve seen the picture or not. Get to know Moll Flanders —she will capture your heart from first measure to last.

This releases are available now on pre-order. The CDs will ship next Monday 10th.

Moll Flanders, excellent! And it was a long album for its day, over 40 minutes.

EDIT. & ordered, along with A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum.

I wonder if Warner have the music tapes for that other great John Addison period romp, Start The Revolution Without Me?

CANADIAN BACON. That is obscure. Well-played, Quartet.

Since my last Elmer /Peter collaboration CD THE ROUGH RIDERS is excellent and has shot up in value since being out-of-print (plus the samples are wonderful) CANADIAN BACON is eagerly anticipated.

Just when I said Elmer was neglected.

How big is the orchestra in Canadian Bacon? It sure sounds pretty small. Too many of the samples sound close to military source cues that I don't enjoy in other Bernstein scores.

Happy to see this release of AAMF from John Addison and Quartet. I wonder if Quartet will beat Intrada or Kritzerland to the punch when it comes to such titles as WHERE'S JACK ? , THE ODD COUPLE or BAREFOOT IN THE PARK.

Can’t believe how little interest are shown on this board for a true masterpiece as “Moll Flanders” is. Although the film is a bit forgotten today, you've listen the samples?.

I am thrilled that Moll Flanders finally has a CD release. I have the old RCA LP which I still play.

It's a great Score in similar vein to Tom Jones but with more melody and a great main theme.

This sounds like an interesting release which I might get at some point, although my interest is higher in the Italian/French releases from the 60s/70s from Quartet, which sadly are becoming rare.

Not to mention vintage Spanish scores which a Spanish label should release - at least once in a while ...
I only hope that the 'Blind dead'-tapes are well preserved so that when the time comes and they can be released have not rotted away.

Sadly, but most of the tapes from Spanish films of the 60/70 and even 80 are lost and destroyed. We have rescued some titles that will be released over the coming months, but not too many, unfortunately.

Any of "Blind Dead" films do not exist. Sorry.

Thanks for the infos but regarding the 'Blind Dead' scores I heard that Maestro Abril has the tapes and just does not want them to be released.

Wrong info. Abril only have a few tapes of his film recordings, not the tapes, that ended in a dumpster when Kyrios Studios closed its doors. Although in the case that Abril had something, of course he has no interest in any release. Strangely is the most prolific composer of Spanish film history, but he completely denies from his film music.

It's always great to see a new John Addison release. Quartet's "Grace Quigley" is one my most-played CDs of the past two years. It's so cool!

Great to have the Moll Flanders LP finally available. Too bad the full score could not be issued. Any idea how much music is missing?
