Forget "Doctor Who" and his Daleks. Here's a bunch of guys fighting really bad baddies and now they will be doing it without the green speckled veil. The old looks is what I have know all my life so the new image really will take getting used to. I wonder if the series will contain "Klansmen".
When I tried to watch British shows I can never enjoy it because, apparently, many of them were made on videotape. The soap opera look just kills it for me, not sure about this show. It appears like a massive effort at restoration, similar to Star Trek TNG.

I know what you mean, it had that typical dry look that was betrayed immediately by movement in combination brightly lit surfaces. They'd cause blue and purple streaks. Almost every episode of "Blake's seven has those" and it made the contrast even more strong when they switched to filmed sections. "The professionals" is ALL film so that studio look is completely absent here, and it's a really very solid show regardless the down talkers and detractors, it really is a phenomenally entertaining ride. Hard hitting action and three excellently cast main characters.

I do remember most of the productions that had video interiors and 16mm (or whatever) exteriors. You got brainwashed with the TV formulaic look. It is interesting that the entirely filmed Professionals series will get the 'digital' treatment. Many old black and white movies that have been restored (which is something I assume has happened due to exceptionally clean images) look great, so to what extent that wishy-washy lower res film can be enhanced is of some curiosity.
I've always thought that american TV series that had been filmed (just about everything) set the benchmark on both sides of the atlantic. Take Kojak, as a typical example. The stock used to film the action is generally of better quality than that used to film The Professionals, taken solely on a collective sense of impression sampled over time. The stateside equipment was generally of better quality, and the technical execution of the programming of the era is, I think, why so many of us hanker for the material from then.
In fact (and I've mentioned this in other threads to some extent) the type of film used and the even balance of sound mixed in goes a long way to create the 60s & 70s TV sense of depth that psychologically went quite a way to creating the sense of home comfort and normality that used to exist, in the broadest sense, from my childhood and adolescence. The current digital epoch, just doesn't cut it. Don't quite know why. It's not just quality; there's the ambiance.
