While not related to the musical focus normally discussed on these threads, David “Deacon” Jones certainly operated at a skill level of artistry. Those of you who, like me, grew up watching the Fearsome Foursome (Jones, Lundy, Grier, Olsen) remember the dedication and fierceness with which he played the game. He coined the term “sack” for tackling the QB behind the line of scrimmage. I can’t imagine the fear he must have inspired in opponent’s backfields when they saw him coming. Nowadays where players exhibit (IMO) over-the-top celebrations for just doing their jobs on the field, he was all business. He was also great in interviews and apparently quite a charitable man. He will be sorely missed.

I know him more from his days on the TV show GvsE ("That's what it is!").

Does anybody remember when he appeared on "The Brady Bunch" and "The Odd Couple" as himself? The last named had an episode where he appeared in a television commercial directed by Felix, and Oscar flubs one of Deacon's lines, "This guy here with the craving sheam!".

That odd couple episode was very funny, DEACON playing it so cool and straight.
