WEDNESDAY, JUNE 5

THE HOBBIT: THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG---new photo of Evangeline Lilly as Tauriel, the elf warrior. Lilly said, "Tauriel is the head of the Elven Guard. She’s a Sylvan Elf, which means she’s of a much lower order than the elves we all became acquainted with in The Lord of the Rings. She doesn’t hold the same kind of status that Arwen or Galadriel or Elrond or Legolas do — she’s much more lowly. She sort of goes against the social order of the elves a little bit.
She will definitely have a love story. I can’t give away too much about it. It’s not a huge focus but it is there and it is important and it does drive Tauriel and her story and her actions."
When asked if the love story involves Legolas (Orlando Bloom), she replied, "Tauriel’s relationship with Legolas is significant. They’ve known each other since they were children, and Legolas’ dad, [Elven king] Thrandruil, has a soft spot for Tauriel and sees something very special in her. So if you grow up side by side, and your dad has a very special spot in his heart for this young woman who’s a fantastic warrior, I think it’s hard not to notice her. That’s probably as much as I can say.”

GODS OF EGYPT---Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (GAME OF THRONES) is in talks to star in this movie in which Horus, the Egyptian god of the sky, teams up with a human thief and Hathor, the goddess of love, to avenge the death of his father, Osiris.

THE HUNDRED-FOOT JOURNEY---Helen Mirren will star in this movie based on the novel about the owner of an exclusive French restaurant who befriends a boy whose family owns a rival Indian restaurant one hundred feet away.

I've only heard good things about Fables (I've only read the Cinderella spin off), what with TTG's upcoming Fables game, it will be interesting to see what sort of take Hollywood will take with it.

Interesting publicity shot. You sure that's HBC? confused

Yeah. That captures something of the Burton/Taylor mystique. You know, that 'beautiful people' aura.

"Tauriel?"

Never heard of any "Tauriel" in anything by Tolkien.

More expansionism....

(Like the expanded movie role for Arwen, who's more of a remote lady-on-a-pedestal in the original LOTR....)
