Have any other FRIDAY THE 13TH fans noticed that "Sail Away Tiny Sparrow" from disc 1 of the box set (as well, I presume, as the stand-alone CD of the first movie's soundtrack) is at the wrong speed? It's slowed down enough that it sounds like a male vocalist.

Here are the deets that a friend of mine (MadTheDJ) was able to get from the net and from e-mail correspondence with the woman who is apparently the original singer:

- the singer's name is Angela Rotella
- on the LLL box set, the song is slowed down about 15% from the recorded track and from how it is heard in the film
- using a program like Audacity, it's easy enough to speed it up about 15% to get it to the right speed

Anyone have further info on this? It was my understanding that LaLaLand, who it should be pointed out have done an INCREDIBLE job with this box, used the original film stems so it's odd they ended up with the wrong speed on the track. Would love to hear MV's notes on this.

Please don't read into this any kind of flaming or war-waging. I am beyond thrilled with the box set and until my friend pointed it out, didn't know the track was at the wrong speed. It's well-buried in the mix within the film. Once it's pointed out, of course, and heard at the correct speed, it takes on a much different feel. You can also hear the vocal subtleties in Angela's voice, including some lovely vibrato, as well as some fun country pastiche playing from the musicians.

I wonder if there's a way for all fans to benefit from a corrected version. Surprised it's not on Harry's site for download, unless he doesn't own the rights.

Thanks for clarifying that. I always thought it sounded different and always wondered why. Like you, I'm completely grateful for the set as is, so I'm not complaining.

Indeed! It's one of those sets I never thought I'd see. Gorgeously produced, rivalled pretty much only by LLL's own STAR TREK box.

MadTheDJ has posted the corrected version to YouTube:

I absolutely love this set, so this isn't a complaint either.

Thanks for pointing this out Accidental Genius, the song did sound a little 'slow' to me. Also, thanks for the Audacity tip - I increased the speed by 15% and it sounds as it does in the YouTube clip.

As I unchecked the track in Itunes, not a big screwup as far as I'm concerned. But I would be annoyed if it were a track I wanted on there smile

Not a fan of the song, Francis? I find it has a cheesy charm, and is often an earworm for me. Of course, since starting this thread it has been an unstoppable earworm... only now at the correct speed and pitch. smile

I'll thank my friend, MadTheDJ, who used some trial-and-error to figure out at which percentage the track was too slow. So yeah, like thanks, MadTheDJ. smile

Not a good type of cheese IMO, I love the cheesy ending of disc 5 better big grin.

Thanks for bringing this to light.
I honestly thought this was an alternate version sung by a male.
Who knew? smile

It really is striking how different it sounds at the correct speed. razz I'm surprised more fans and buyers of this box set aren't interested in this news, though, so perhaps most people didn't notice it.

Very nice catch, amazing how different it sounds with a slight speed change.

Surprised LLL hasn't made a comment on this, on whether it was a creative decision or not etc. Can't remember if it was mentioned in the booklet, might have to dig it out again.

Did not even realize the speed was off because I always skip that track. Never cared for most songs in movies.

I don't remember it being mentioned in the booklet and am also surprised MV hasn't commented on it. May have slipped by him and LLL. In any case, I'm very grateful my friend MadTheDJ speed-corrected it; I've added it to that album in iTunes.

I saw the Waxwork LP for this at what is about to become our only downtown record store. It indicates that it includes the song, so I wonder if it's still the same master as LLL's. Much as I adore the set, I truly wish LLL weren't so taciturn on this matter. There's no way they aren't aware of it by now. And if, for example, I knew they'd corrected it for the standalone F13 CD, I'd buy a copy with no qualms. (Or at least, with few qualms. smile)

Anyone have the vinyl and can verify if it's pitch-corrected?

I know this is from last year, but I love how useless this comment is! Just like this one, yes, but still, made me laugh.
