INTRADA Announces:

INCHON
Composed and Conducted by JERRY GOLDSMITH
INTRADA Vol. MAF 7125

One of Intrada's fastest selling Special Collection titles was Jerry Goldsmith's exotic war score to the 1982 film Inchon. Out of print for seven years, Intrada has reissued its 2-CD set, giving a new audience the chance to experience this early '80s effort packed with action, romance and the exotic sound of the east. This set features the original LP presentation as Goldsmith had initially presented his score, plus a second disc featuring the score in chronological order. The film may be forgotten, but what lives on is Jerry Goldsmith's dynamic, colorful and percussive score. The score features an augmented percussion section, including snares, bass drum, cymbals, tympani, triangle, xylophone, woodblocks, boo bams, and many others. At the time of the film's release, Goldsmith had artfully assembled a 38-minute album capturing the highlights and delivering an irresistible listening experience. In 1988, Intrada released an expanded edition that featured the complete score, without all the unique assembly of the LP. Now you can listen to both on this unlimited release.

The 1982 epic chronicles the massive force invasion of Southern Korea led by General Douglas MacArthur. The film had all the right ingredients: a cast that included Ben Gazzara, Jacqueline Bisset, and none other than Sir Laurence Olivier in the role of MacArthur; James Bond veteran director Terence Young at the helm; and a world class composer -- the unequaled Jerry Goldsmith, who gave the film its spirit. Nonetheless, the production was plagued with both natural and man-made troubles, resulting in a film that cost over $44M, was cut from its original 140-minute length to 105 minutes when it went into "wide" release in September 1982, closed relatively quickly, and fell into obscurity.

Ha, I guessed right. There's quite a few Goldsmith soundtracks with MAF numbers on Intrada. I know Mr. Fake didn't want to repress after the very quick sell-out, as he thought it was letting down the collectors, but it's been a while now, & they've changed their business model since then.

To those that missed this, enjoy, it's a great score/set, and you will be VERY happy. To those (like me) who had a rare item that is now worthless... Well, that's life.

And to all those many of you who think we are total assholes to have the nerve that we would think we had something valuable that you missed, and it is now not valuable...

Well, my honest reaction is f&ck you to hell, and before you get all haughty and "how dare you!" save it until this happens to you (and it will) - we will have a very interesting conversation then, and I will certainly give you the same sympathy you gave us here - which is none. Well, that's life...

Enjoy the set, to all that have, or will have it - it's a great set/score.

One of my favorite, of many favorite, Goldsmith scores. What a great score for a truly lousy movie of many great scores from lousy movies.

Stay classy, person who says "fuck you" to people pre-emptively. And just by the by, this has happened to me multiple times. I've paid a lot for a rare item only to have it re-released shortly after; and I've had collectible items that have plummeted in value when they've been re-released. And yes, that is life, and it's never bothered me in the slightest -- but then, I've never cared about the dollar value of the scores (except to the extent I've had to pay it!) . . . I'm really only interested in enjoying the music, and I hope that my film score collection is never a last resort investment to deploy against catastrophe! In any event, I'm sorry you feel the need to start cursing at fellow fans for some imagined future haughtiness. Anyway, I guess thanks for wishing us joy of the set before sending nastiness our way!

/condescending reply.

Fans created the demand, not the disc. So don't take it out on them.

Oh, and people invest in stocks and other things all the time which go down in value. That's why they call it speculation. You should have sold while the price was high if the monetary value was what was important to you -- just like a stock.

I realized that between the re-re-reissue of CHERRY 2000, and the 'download era' we
now live in, you can pretty much give up the 'I have something rare state of mind
now'.
That whole aspect was fun while it lasted I suppose, but really....look at the
business model these labels are following, what their re-releasing, and you can
kiss the rare aspect goodbye.
Sooner you let go and stop being grumpy about it, probably the better....

I never had the chance to get the previous issue of the score, so I'm delighted it's back in print. And kudos to Intrada for keeping the price at $19.99. smile

Wow, some angry voices here. I couldn't care less if the limited editions I own get repressed. The only value for me is the enjoyment of the music.

Totally agree. I don't buy music for speculative purposes...I buy it to listen to it, and am happy when OOP albums get repressed so more fans can enjoy it. Anyone bitching here about how their previous Inchon albums are now "worthless" are just being dickish about the situation.

Dickish indeed. Hats off to Mr. Fake for going with those who are in it for the music and not for the money. This is all about people being able to buy and enjoy the music they love, at least that's how I see it. I can have "that conversation" with bdm, because I've owned many soundtracks that were for a time very scarce and valuable but have since become commonly available. Doesn't bother me a bit! Usually the newer versions have better sound and more music, and I'm happy to replace them. Sorry you got "bit" but as you say, that's life. It's the music, dammit!

Damn, I had hoped it would be Capricorn One... But I'm sure that one will happen sooner or later.

It's just occurred to me that I bought the previous 2-disc set on day one, and I think I've listened to it once. Maybe not even all the way through. Strange.
