In light of some people poo-pooing the recent Zimmer score (I am not one of them), I was reminded of O'Malley's take on The Man Of Steel some years ago for the otherwise poor Superman Returns tie-in game. It doesn't feature Williams's iconic theme and instead has its own musical identity. It's a rollicking fun score and it can be had on Amazon MP3 for less than $10, which means I spent more on my lunch today than you would getting all this music.
If you're strapped for cash, I would recommend the final track "It's A Bird" (or the shorter "Guardian Of Metropolis") as your go-to music but the whole album is very recommended.
It sounds pretty good. But it brings to mind something I have wondered about. Is this Sammy Timberg theme the first superhero theme and isn't it kind of responsible for everything we have today? It influenced the serial and TV SUPERMANs. Which, of course influenced the movie one. Williams and Timberg also both have the notes that say SU-PER-MAN!
