Just got done watching this silly killer rat movie on Youtube. Pretty fun and innocuous stuff, kinda reminds me of THE BOOGENS in that it spends far more time developing character backstories than w/ the actual monsters - Understandable, given they puts dogs in rat suits for this one! Pretty light but entertaining affair from the early 80's. The film has an orchestral score by a composer named Anthony Guefen, and it's a fun and thematic romp with a lot of pastoral interludes (including a lush, if slightly anonymous, love theme that is given a lot of air time in the middle portions of the film). The rats are represented by a slashing violins motif, clearly inspired by PSYCHO, but given an extra edge by dissonant string figures that churn away underneath them - a nice touch. There's an especially good end title cue that summarizes the score's highlights very well. I looked into the composer, Anthony Guefen, and there's virtually no info out there about him. He's only done a handful of film scores over the last 30 some-odd years, with this being his second outing. He scored Larry Cohen's cult classic THE STUFF, but it's been so long since I've seen that film that I can't recall the score at all. It appears that he's still working today, albeit very sporadically. Any info on this guy, or thoughts on the score?
