Such a cool thread. I always hoped to make a "modern" swing compilation / playlist. After all the info is in this thread, maybe I will do just that, if David hasn't already.
This sounds like a worthwhile, separate thread, Lex. Mine is about swing-era writing.
And Raksin said that Fielding did some wonderful things with big band ensembles in some of his 70's scores. It would be interesting to see where others spotted these ensembles in modern writing, without the swing-era style.

:-P Nay, nay, nay, David. You misunderstood me. Consider "modern" in my post as "movies from the last 20-30 years that use retro swing for source music, or even non-diagetic music." I wanted to build a list of the Williams' In The Mood, Shire's Mrs. Florian, etc., and this list would use the best of the examples in this thread.
So, please stop scolding me :-P, and go needle Loren for putting Fielding exmaples in the thread that use Hammonds and other electric instruments (e.g., only the last source cue on The Mechanic is really valid for this thread). jk. Most good jazz swings, but that doesn't mean the music is representative of the swing-era. :-D
