David Arnold took the film's ham-fisted patriotism and modernized sci-fi B-flick sensibilities and served them up in a grand and rousing score full of moments of tender beauty, edge-of-yer-seat near-doom, and exhilarating triumph. The film required aural popcorn, so by golly, Arnold delivered gourmet popcorn of the highest and finest degree. Still his best work after all these years, in my opinion.

Oh yes, I wholeheartedly recommend "ID" - although IMHO Arnold's best work is "Last of the Dogmen"!
I'm not familiar with Arnold's Last of the Dogmen, but having just looked up the track "Leaving Forever" on youtube, I must say it sounds extremely beautiful and quite frankly, apart from a very brief ID4-like flute flutter, nothing like anything else I've heard from Arnold. In fact, had I gone into that track blind, I would have plainly and readily pegged Barry as the composer. Sounds like it's due time for somebody out there to give this early Arnold a rerelease.

There were a lot of good suggestions.
On the 3rd of July I usually watch Jaws because there is a line in it to paraphrase Tomorrow is the fourth of July and these beaches will be open.
Will also be watching Capital Fourth on my public TV station to see John Williams conduct Lincoln.

LAST OF THE DOGMEN is amazing. I'm stunned that there's been so much negativity toward it on this board in the past. Gorgeous, sweeping stuff with some truly monumental action cues!
But back on topic... Yea, INDEPENDENCE DAY is about as Americana-friendly and bravado-laden as you can get!
