If you're talking about CDs that sell in the hundreds somtimes, I would assume FSM's "The Towering Inferno" would be among them. It goes for quite a bit on the secondary market. I guess a lot of people want their "Knightrider" CD as well...

Of course you hear about CDs going for thousands of dollars, which I really don't understand. But, to each his own.

Blood in, Blood out--Bill Conti??

In the early days: A For your consideration promo cd-r for "Alexander" by Vangelis, fetched around 1500 dollars on Ebay because it contained a track with a different mix and an unreleased track.
Way before that somebody paid in auction about the same amount for a Varese Club cd of Cherry 2000 by Basil Poledouris.

There was an Avatar 5 CD promo that went couple of thousand dollars on ebay, but who knows if that even got paid in the end.

You would think Horner will not let the complete be released.

Goldsmith's "Raggedy Man" has to be somewhat scares.........Anyone have a copy?

There's a rather pricey copy going on EBay. Perhaps Varese might repress it as a future club release.

The Japanese release of "Airport 1975" (John Cacavas) keeps going for between $300-400... Going to be some unhappy "investors" when that eventually gets a wider release!

I've always been puzzled by these super expensive CDs. Most of the time the scores themselves are nice enough, but more often than not they turn out to be 'average' works that are valuable mostly due their rarity.

For instance, La Revolution Française, an okay score, is going for more than 400.00$ at SAE. For 20.00$ one could easily obtain two better scores from the same composer.

I purchased a copy of The Dark Half - Christopher Young - for less than 5.00$ (in a used bin)20 years ago and it gets far more mileage than an expensively acquired promo of another of his scores.

I must have more than 100 cds that are 'worth' way upwards of 100.00$ and yet most of them get comparatively little play in relation to their 'value'. Any thoughts?

I do. Purchased it from the first incarnation of the Varese Club, hand-numbered # 689 of 1500. That must have been, what? 20 years ago? I'd be happy to consider selling it for a mere $5000 or so. You pay the postage.

Raggedy Man is not that expensive. I've got one not so long ago for 200 bucks.

Still searching for VIBES.

My most sought after is not a CD but an LP: Edward Scissorhand.
Some speculator has recently tried to sell it - without success - for $ 595 on ebay.

I long for some fairer offer than this.

Agreed. With the exception of a few sold out limited releases, I actually have no idea which of my scores are out of print and worth quite some cash. I believe Goldsmith's McArthur is pretty rare (at least so I read once), but it's probably my least played Goldsmith score. Bought it a couple of years ago for a couple of bucks at a secondhand store.

I'd say that Debney's HOCUS POCUS and Folk's TOY SOLDIERS are quite standards on these lists.

Are we speaking only of CDs that have actually been released, or can we include things we'd like to see happen that haven't yet?

Obviously the former.

My choice would be:

- Centurion (Ilan Eshkeri)
- El Cid - La leyenda (Oscar Araujo)
- Transporter II (Alexandre Azaria)
- La Revolution francaise (Georges Delerue)
- Tour du monde tour du ciel (Georges Delerue)
- Obsession (Herrmann)
- Concert suites (Herrmann)
- Under the volcano (North)
- The dead (North)

To name only a few

Scarcity and high prices of CDs have nothing to do with quality of music.

CDs are scarce because they were pressed in limited numbers and sold out (and no one is currently willing to re-press more); or
CDs are scarce because the label that pressed them removed the titles from catalogs and left them OOP until someone comes along to negotiate a reissue buyout; or
CDs are scarce because someone took a gamble on a limited pressing and bought up many copies hoping/thinking they'd make a killing by charging $400 a pop.

"The Serpent and the Rainbow" -- perfectly fine score, but so totally NOT worth more than $20 under ANY circumstances.

I sold my North Dead Score to a chap here on the board from Spain I think. I just never listened to it.

$179 on ebay today. I would not pay that much though.
