Always enjoyed this film and it's score. I never have seen WESTWORLD though and I really must track it down. If I liked FUTUREWORLD will I like WESTWORLD? I believe Karlin scored both as well. Does Karlin carry over themes or music from film to film?

If you liked one, yeah you should like the other. As I recall ( I may be wrong ), Karlin didn't quote any themes from one to the other ( the Westworld Gunslinger theme for example ) . The Westworld score from FSM is an excellent CD, but the majority of the score is really genre specific : typical western music for Westworld, source music for the Medieval World, etc. Aside from a very nice synth sequence for the robot repair scene, there is no real dramatic scoring until the final 30 minutes. Then there is the terrific chase music & Gunslinger theme... very effective mix of acoustic and electronics. If you have the FutureWorld CD, you have the bulk of the dramatic music, but the FSM Westworld CD is very very highly recommended

Westworld and Future World are both on Blu Ray

If you like Future World you will love Westworld.

completely different scores and films, and there's no way to predict if you'll like one because of another. I like WESTWORLD but not FUTURE WORLD. You should simply watch WESTWORLD and see if you like the music or not.

Since you like the FUTURE WORLD score, try to get that out-of-print CD. It conveniently has a bonus suite of all the dramatic music from WESTWORLD, and that's probably all that most fans really want to hear.
The two WESTWORLD releases have the same dramatic score as separate cues, along with generic "western" and "roman" world themes, which arent particularly interesting. But perhaps the sound quality has been enhanced on the WESTWORLD releases.

I love FUTUREWORLD, good score. I don't have the soundtrack, but remember the music from watching movie years ago.

The piano and brass early montage is even very close to John Williams' BLACK SUNDAY.
I never figured this out until now.

Thierry, westworld 1973 and futureworld 1976

Black Sunday 1977.

So, you really mean that John Williams's Black Sunday piano and brass is " even close" to fred Karlin's earlier music, not the other way around, right? smile
