MONA LISA
Music Composed and Conducted by Michael Kamen

CASTAWAY
Original Music Composed by Stanley Myers & Hans Zimmer
Produced by Hans Zimmer

Limited Edition of 1000 units

Two-on-one CD premiere of two soundtrack albums previously issued on LP by EMI.

... so the "connection" between a Neil Jordan film & a Nicolas Roeg film is simply that their LPs were on the EMI label from the U.K.

Ordered without hesitation but god do I hate paypal. Also would be nice if they listed american prices as well. Didn't know I paid $56 for the 2 releases until after the fact. Fyi fellow americans.

This depends on exchange rates and I'm not sure if its practicable. Besides then American sites would have to list prices in pounds, rubies, shekels and krones (for Thor)

Great releases though.

Actually a lot of sites do show the $$$ price, others allow you to switch what you see.

I imagine there's a plugin a web developer could use that can handle an instant exchange rate like that.

Just got my MONA LISA/CASTAWAY in yesterday and its just magic. I said before that my favourite Kamen track is 'King's Cross/ Follow Anderson' from MONA LISA and i was in heaven listening to it last night without the clicks and pops from my well-worn LP. The sound quality on this CD is just superb. Huge thanks to Quartet for getting this out. Yes, its not the most in-your-face of Michael's scores but its just beautiful in its dark sadness.
Listening to CRUSOE next.

I listened to Crusoe this morning. Its terrific. Good balance of orchestra and Kurzweil. A wonderful theme which i only knew from his "Opus" cd. Highly recommended for fans of Kamen's late 80's writing.

I got Mona Lisa also, but haven't listened yet. I'm already familiar with the album, of course.

Thanks Quartet!

Listened through Mona Lisa/Castaway once. First of all, the 6-minute track "Slap You Back" by Exception was a positive surprise - an 80s band that I hadn't heard of before. The cover says it's named "Slap Your Back", but that's just one of several typos in the booklet...
Kamen's "King's Cross/Follow Anderson" is indeed a nice track, it has a certain Vangelis-vibe, plus, ironically, it's somewhat similar to Castaway.

Highlights on Castaway is of course the Kate Bush song, plus "The Island", "Memories Of Tango" and "Castaway", all showcasing that breezy, relaxing mood that seem perfect for the film. Nicholas Roeg must have got just what he asked for from Myers and Zimmer. The rest of the score made me think of guys like Erik Satie, Burt Bacharach and John Barry, with a hint of Angelo Badalamenti thrown in. All in all, an interesting little disc.

I bought this for the Castaway music, and it didn't disappoint. I detect more of a Stanley Myers sound than Zimmer. The main theme and the tango are absolutely gorgeous and the other cues work well too, making a really lovely dream-like whole. It's great that Quartet would think of releasing this. I'd love it if we could have some more scores by Stanley Myers released.

Really enjoying these lost Kamens. Gives me hope that The Next Man will be soon.

Not familiar with THE NEXT MAN, but based on these recent Quartet releases, I'm sold!

Kamen's Wikipedia entry did not list Crusoe on his Discography so I just updated.
Would this movie be considered to be released before Munchausen or after?
I put it after.

Any Stanley Myers cd is okay with me. His half-dozen soundtrack lps from the 60s all deserve a cd release. So far, only Kaleidoscope has made it.
