La-La Land Records is seeing RED...RED 2, that is. Just wanted to give you all a heads up that on July 30 we will be releasing the cd for Alan Silvestri's fantastic action packed score to RED 2, starring Bruce Willis, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Mary Louise-Parker, Helen Mirren, John Malkovich, and Sir Anthony Hopkins. The cd release will even feature a Bonus Track not found on the digital download.

Alan Silvestri is a popular composer around these parts. He has a new score to a summer action blockbuster coming out, which a label head has described as both "fantastic" and "action-packed".
And yet almost 48 hours later, there are 0 replies to this thread. What's the deal?

Sivestri's a "blind buy" for me.
One of the very best composers when it comes to action scoring IMHO.
Flying a Tank from The A-Team is one of my favorite tracks for an action scene from recent years.
On the other hand, I'd love to hear some more intimate scores in the wake of Forrest Gump or Contact from the composer. Zemecki's Flight didn't get a proper release, didn't it?
Yeah, Flying a Tank is one hell of a track, and I agree, one of my absolute favorites in recent years. Listening to the Red 2 samples, although they sound great to me, this score won't be very popular here I fear - heavy on electronic accents and a groove/ Bourne feel. But it's a must have for me.
And yes, it'd be nice to hear a more intimate score from Silvestri again - a Flight / Cast Away release would be fine. It was basically repeats & slight variations of one theme, but Cast Away was just heartbreakingly lovely

Surprisingly, I didn't care much for this score. I really like Silvestri in heavy electronics mode like The A-Team or G.I. Joe but this one sort of lacked heart and soul, it just felt by-the-numbers with a few quotes from Beck's original score.
Silvestri is hit-or-miss with me these days.
Francis, funny you say that about Silvestri and synths now-and-then. I do think he is very capable of writing terrific synth-heavy scores, but I was shocked at how much I felt the synth drums were outdated and amateurish sounding, particularly in the main title. I also felt there was a similar dated quality in the synth drums from The Avengers. He can execute some cutting-edge sounds but the synth drums in Red 2 and The Avengers don't even come close and are woefully out of date. To my ears!

GI Joe had some moments as well. I've been playing Captain America and The Avengers a lot lately ( more than I did on their original releases ) and find there's still lots of punch there... Silvestri still packs a punch.
