Not to nitpick a fun piece, but there's progression that reminds me a bit of "Promenade (Tourists On The Menu)" from JAWS (OST). Appropriately nautical!
Beautiful piece! And I must agree with Mike above, John is in top form. Marvelous music, with great color and vigor, with a joy of life that reminded me in spirit of 'One Barrel Chase' from my favorite "Jaws". It really is a thrill to see him so productive with these little gems, following his gorgeous Oboe Concerto. Superb playing, too, by the USMC band; they were as brilliant and shiny as Colonel Colborn's shoes.
Don't know if I'd interpret it as a tribute to the currently sitting president. More a piece designed just for this band.
Even if it was for the president himself (which it isn't), the current president was not president in 2013.
Just what the fake news media wants you to believe. But let's avoid politics. It is a wonderful tribute to our president.
IMHO, it is not a tribute to the President at all, but rather to the ensemble itself, for its 250th Anniversary. The Marine Band is nicknamed "The President's Own," whoever happens to be in office. The name dates back to 1801.
