Hope someone has a simple solution to this problem. About a month ago, my computer was infected, and I had to have it fixed. I couldn’t log into FSM after that event. I only can get in now and then. I type in my user name when I have to “log in” and my password. I also click on “auto login” every single time. Then I hit “log in” button, and EVERY Time, this message pops up. “You entered an invalid username/password combination. Please try again.” And I do try again, and the same message appears. I contacted the Board Administrator, and he can’t find the problem at his end. If I wait a while after trying to log in and go back to the FSM board, I can get in….for a little while. When I go back again, I have to log in again and wait and try again and wait. Obviously right now, I got in, but I won’t be able to get back in later on.

Anyone have a solution? (I’ve tried my user name and e mail, but the same message keeps coming back.) If you think you have an answer, let me know. I’m NOT tech savvy, so type slowly or provide simple directions. I’m totally frustrated and tired of not being able to post here very often.

Thanks for any help.

What a pain!!

Could be one of a few things, but before we get started do you use a PC? Or a Mac? If you use a PC, do you know whether you are using Internet Explorer? Which version? Or Firefox? Or Chrome maybe? This information would help a lot smile

Assuming you get back online and read this- Sign out, clear internet cache and delete cookies, close out of browser, restart computer and put in user-name and password again. Those are your first trouble shooting options.

Greg,
Joan emailed me (she can't get in at the moment) and asked me to let you know that her computer is a PC and her browser is Internet Explorer 7. Hope that generates an idea or two. Please, anyone with a suggestion post it here. (What would we do without Joan???) Thanks, solium, for your suggestion also. Definitely worth a try.

Have Joan download and run this - http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner

It'll help wipe her cache and history but still keep bookmarks. And it's FREE. Ignore the Buy Now button, that's for donations.

To me, it sounds like the virus corrupted files in her cache, which I've had happens to me years ago.

Thanks Dana....

...Joan - for a start I would fully update your PC...not sure what version of Windows you are using, but click "Start" button and go to "All Programmes" or get to where you can see a list on the Start Menu of all the progs you have installed - then click on "Windows Update"...let Windows download everything it can, including newest version of Internet Explorer (which is far better, and much more secure, than IE7!) and all security updates, service packs etc etc etc.

Then try FSM again and see if you have same problem. If you do, Solium's advice would be the next step (though updating Windows and IE should - SHOULD - do this already...but it might not).

Let's see how that works...? Then we'll think again if we need to smile

Okay at this point I sort of stumbled back in here. I did what Mr. Greg asked, and I tried LeHah's suggestion but no free downloads there at this time. Solium, I tried the deletion of cookies, etc.,
but I don't think I did it correctly. I did download all new Windows programs. That took all night.

Thanks for your help, all of you. Thanks Dana for posting for me.

If I can't get back in after I post this, then I will hire a computer expert to come over to look at my cache, cookies, etc. because I'm not savvy enough to fix the problems. Thanks ALL of you, and I hope I can return on a permanent basis.

I've gotten in twice and here is what I'm finding. Before my computer problems, I could not get into the board using filmscoremonthly.com. That would always say that the web page couldn't be displayed. I had to go into history and go into the message board via non film or film discussion topics. (Others I noted had to do the same thing.) Now it is just the opposite. If I try to go directly into non film or film discussion threads, I am Logged Out. If I go into main page, I'm logged in. I guess I'll live with that and hope this continues to work.

Thanks again. Here is hoping this works. You four are now my BFF's. smile

dear joan.

if all fixes fail you try this

You put your right hand in,
You put your right hand out,
You put your right hand in,
And you shake it all about,

You do the hokey pokey
and you turn yourself around
That what it's all about.

that should fix it.

good luck with your p.c.

Hi joan,

I am tech savvy and must tell you that if you paid to have your pc cleaned and restored, they did not do a thorough job if you are having connection issues. Do you have anyone around you who IS tech savvy and can help you? If so I would recommend that you do a full restore of your pc back to factory settings if possible. Do you have the factory discs? You may be able to get them from the manufacturer or online. If you have your data backed up, it should be easy. Most times you just drop them in and follow the prompts. You may have gotten something originally that still has a hold on your hard drive.

If you are interested in doing this, let me know and I will give you more info. I have done this process a few times and have saved a few laptops and desktops this way. My kids call me the laptop whisperer. If I can be of help, let me know.

edwzoomom, thank you for your offer. My PC was built by my "tech guy." He fixed our issues and got me back on line. Had I not been able to get back into FSM, I would have, at a hefty monetary price, brought him back to my home. If I do have further issues, I'll drag him back and have him read this whole topic. So far things are doing okay. Thank you.
