Of course SAMMY CAHN was a fine well known lyricist who did lyrics for many great songs from films and away from films.

I love most of those films!! "The Bad and the Beautiful" was soap, purely and simply, but enjoyable nevertheless. Kirk Douglas is always a ham. "Love is for the very young". That makes me laugh heartily. A bit like "love means never having to say you're sorry"?

One thing about being older (cough) is that you realize the capacity to fall in love is just as strong as it was when you were 18 - rather alarmingly!!!

"Love is for the Very Young" was Raksin's own title for his piece - when Dory Langdon Previn later wrote lyrics for it, she retitled the song "The Bad and the Beautiful." It's a very nice lyric, with a distinctly world-weary bent to it, though I still prefer thinking of it as a wordless "siren song," as Raksin had originally written it.

Well, I didn't know that. Thanks for the information!

It is also interesting how many variations there are to something like LAURA featuring covers using photos of various band leaders like Tommy Dorsey and Woody Herman.

Definitely film music promotion from another area. And undoubtedly a contributing factor to the enduring popularity of a film theme from 69 years ago.

Anybody know why "Forever Amber" was not included in the "Timeless Melodies of DR" book?

Whoa, Nellie! "Amber" is not even in this SheetMusicMan collection!

The only version available online is the instrumental, not the vocal: https://www.sheetmusicnow.com/products/forever-amber-p305447

And check out the performance note from DR himself!

Hey, hey, hey! I just discovered that there's sheet music for DAISY KENYON!

"You Can't Run Away from Love" (Raksin, Mack Gordon)

https://oac.cdlib.org/findaid/ark:/13030/kt5j49r1vz/dsc/?dsc.position=57501

There's also a copy in the Denver Public Library. But even if I put my bike on the transit, my bus pass still won't get me close enough to see it. Darn-it!
