Love the score and the sheet music. Burgon is a criminally underrated composer. Is there sheet music for "When Trumpets Fade"?

I've never come across it. You do know about his album of church pieces, etc. on the Hyperion label, right?

Also, you could perhaps say that Burgon WAS a criminally underrated composer. Unfortunately he passed away in 2010.

Yes, I was aware of his death but he remains criminally underrated in terms of his popularity as opposed to, say, Benny Herrmann. wink

There's an excellent Burgon feature on the Dr Who "Seeds of Doom" DVD which has Burgon discussing the score for that as well as his other BBC efforts including the "Treasure of Abbot Thomas", a production I'd love to see. I have not heard his church works, alas.

Here's my "In Praise of Geoffrey Burgon" thread from 2011:

A fair amount of Geoffrey Burgon's classical works are available in sheet music. Unaware of anything on THEN TRUMPETS FADE or any of his other film/TV work being available in print form.

His score to THE DOGS OF WAR is outstanding. A very underrated composer in film music circles.

Was not familiar with WHEN TRUMPETS FADE nor Burgon's church pieces. Just picked up CDs of both based on your recommendations. Thank you.

There are many arrangements out there of his "Nunc Dimittis" - used as the theme from "Tinker, Tailor etc etc"...I wish I could find the best one (for Piano, Trumpet and Solo Voice) but it escapes me...annoying, I have had the pleasure of playing it many times.

In answer to your question, the song in THE DOGS OF WAR was "Epitaph on an Army of Mercenaries" sung by Gillian McPherson with music by Geoffrey Burgon with lyrics from a poem by A.E. Housman. To our knowledge, there was no sheet music released of it.

The music book "BRIDESHEAD REVISITED PLUS FIVE TV THEMES BY GEOFFREY BURGON" contains the following: "Theme from Testament of Youth," "Nunc Dimittis-Theme from Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy," "Theme from Brideshead Revisited," "Theme from Bleak Houe,' "The Old Wives' Tale- Theme from Sophia and Constance," and "Aslan's Theme from The Chronicles of Narnia."

We have also come across sheet music from the TV miniseries "JOHN GALSWORTHY'S THE FORSYTE SAGA (Irene's Song-Theme from)
