Torpedo Run has long been a favourite of mine. Would love to finally see the full widescreen cinemascope version. Up to now only the pan&scan version has surfaced on UK Terrestrial TV. Does a full cinemascope print still exist?
TORPEDO RUN has never had a Region 1 DVD release. Turner Classic Movies occasionally shows a widescreen version of the film in the U.S. I've been waiting for a made-on-demand DVD from the Warner Archive, which is the most likely source.
I've never seen the film, but notice that there is no credited composer. Does the film not have a score, or is it just tracked with stock music, since it was produced around the time of the 1958 musician's strike?
I investigated Torpedo Run towards the end of our Turner CDs for FSM. Yes, this was a "strike score" for which the M-G-M music dept. went to Germany to re-record library cues from past pictures—the recordings survive, I believe in mono, though they are not terribly interesting. There's a lot of Rozsa that was used, along with some Previn, Alexander, Kaper, Webb and other composers who worked at M-G-M in that era. I pulled the masters for possible use on the Rozsa box, given the Rozsa connection.
