In early 2006, A&E Home Video released The Avengers - Emma Peel Collector's Edition on DVD, a 51-episode collection with all of Rigg's appearances in the show. It came on 16 discs, plus a bonus 17th disc featuring three previously "lost" episodes from the pre-Rigg era of the program. That item originally went for $179.95 SRP when it first came out, and was later reduced in cost to a $99.95 list price. However, it's been out of print for a long time now, and "new"-condition copies can often go for HUNDREDS of dollars more than the original list price!

Today, A&E and their current distributor Lionsgate Entertainment informed retailers that on October 8th they will re-release these 51 episodes on DVD with The Avengers - The Complete Emma Peel Megaset. You'll get all 3 seasons with Diana Rigg as "Emma Peel" - 51 episodes - on 16 discs for just $49.98 SRP. The DVDs will come packaged in one big plastic case this time (the previous set used a whole slew of plastic cases, in volumes which were also sold separately, that slid into a cardboard box slipcase), with brand-new artwork featuring Steed (Patrick Macnee) and Peel on the cover. It looks fantastic; check it out!

I have the original megaset, and love it, as Mrs. Peel is my favorite... but I wish they'd do a mega set for Honor Blackman's Cathy Gale as well!

If only Optimum could release a Blu-ray edition with English subtitles!

I am surprised that there are any new DVD releases anymore. The DVD section at bluebox is getting smaller every week.

The Best Buy across the street from me has three aisles of BRs and DVDs intermixed.

One aisle for music.

Thats it. It completely blows my mind; 2/3rds of their stock (which I guess wasn't moving) was replaced with a damn phone kiosk.

Yeah, about 6 months ago BB had separate DVD and Blu, Then they combined them, and the total shelf volume is much less too. Too hard to figure what titles they axed, but I am assuming that they must have moved a lot of older catalog titles to online order only. It is understandable as business idea, since space is so expensive. Still, it was rather nice to physically have a lot of titles there. Of course BB has deep financial problems against online, mostly Amazon. For years people could buy DVD and BR on Amazon much cheaper than Best Buy. They finally woke up this year with price match, but the damage is already done. Consumers are trained that we can get a better deal online with Amazon, with less trouble.

Yeah, the over-sized stupid phone section, it is huge! I really cannot understand that with the number of cell phone retailers it makes sense for them to have that much sq foots selling phones. I mean you can buy a cell phone at 30 locations within a mile of my house probably! There are about a dozen in my closet mall. And there is bankrupt Best Buy carving out hundred of Sq foot to sell - phones.

Duh. I guess they deserve to go down in flames, they have been remarkably inept.
