I really hope this is a comedy.

So, does anyone know why Luke even has a son? Jedi Knights are not supposed to have such relationships (love for all things equally, no emotional attachments, that which you love can be used to attack you, etc. etc.).

I imagine one night stands still exist in the future, or the past since it was apparently a long time ago

Maybe the Han/Leia thing didn't work out? big grin

That was the old Jedi order, which the Emperor and Vader did away with during Revenge of the Sith. What happens from Return of the Jedi forward remains to be seen. If they follow the lead of the Star Wars Expanded Universe, the new Jedi Order that Luke creates allows Jedi to get married. And in fact, Luke does get married, and has a son named Ben. http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Ben_Skywalker

Perhaps Luke donated his midichlorians via cup into a Jedi sperm bank and wham! Out comes a son.

Or maybe this is just another pointless unfounded rumor.

It's interesting how much the prequels have altered the Star Wars expanded universe. I've recently started reading the Star Wars novels chronologically (by release order) and the "big reveal" at the end of one of the earlier books is that an Imperial admiral is CLONING STORMTROOPERS and all the heroes start losing their shit about it. Fast forward to less than ten (of our) years later, and that author would have known that the technique was old hat during the Clone Wars.

The Jedi ban on love is a nice plot-friendly stumbling block for Lucas to come up with for the prequels, and it does its job nicely of creating a conflict for Anakin vs. the Jedi, but it derails a significant portion of the expanded universe in its path (as mentioned above, Luke marries and has a child; Leia becomes a Jedi and has three children with Han; etc, etc, etc).

Not that it really matters - first of all because Lucasfilm has gone on record saying that the only Star Wars "canon" is what you see on the screen - in the films and in the authorized TV series such as Clone Wars or the upcoming Rebels series that will take place between ROTS and Star Wars. Second of all, there's an easy out, which they've used, that Luke knew little of the old Jedi ways, as all of his links to that past had died and moved on. Third of all, there's some grey area even in the established canon post-ROTS. The Clone Wars series had a nice few arcs for Obi-Wan and his relationship with another character - it was not romantic in the truest sense of the word, but it was affectionate - and shows the gray area of that limitation.

It will be interesting to see what, if anything, they adopt from the novels, comics, etc for the new movies, as this is the first time they'll be developing a canon source in a time period that has otherwise been developed in a non-canon but official form. I'm not interested in them being beholden to any new characters or plot lines, but at the same time there are certain characters that have been really well developed that I wouldn't mind seeing in the films - Mara Jade, the Solo children, even if the resemblance to the final movie character is in name alone.

There's precedent for adopting from the expanded universe - Lucas entered a few ships from Shadows of the Empire into Mos Eisley in the Star Wars special edition. Coruscant was established as a planet in Heir to the Empire. Various background Jedi, characters, aliens, and planets that had been previously established in other media appeared in the prequels and Clone Wars.

Nerd talk, too long, didn't read.

I know there are good things coming out but this is about what gets attention. It's very sad to see the lack of any standards, or in the consumer. I do appreciate the authors who do this for us by posting these, but a lot of the news smells of desperation IMO. I know I've probably taken this too far, but every time I end up shaking my head in disbelief. There are many talent people in the industry, but the philosophy sucks! It looks like the industry will have to hit rock bottom before things truly change.

PS- I'm not asking for originality. Most of us just are not talented enough. Once people start writing new scripts with new characters, the rest will take care of itself.
