Anyone knows? There are a number of songs and themes that use the first 3 notes. For example: Goldfinger and Moon River Misty and Ebb Tide Al Martino's hit "She Was A Wild And Lovely Rose" and "Stardust". First 8 notes are the same. As a professional pianist (in LA) I often play them as medleys Does anyone else know of others?

If a composer composes a film score that is original, and the director says: "make it more like xyz's temp track piece". And the composer does that, but not enough, producer/director says: "no, more, it needs to be closer to xyz's temp track piece"... And closer and closer it gets... but is it really the composer's fault? He's just a hired hand and needs a paycheck. What I find interesting would be: who gets sued in this case? (Note: not relating this to any specific case, this is just a more theoretical question.)

What I've observed is that most of the powers that be know little about music composition. The one excerption was George Roy Hill. He played an instrument and could relate to the composer in musical terms such as orchestration, harmony, etc.

He played an instrument and could relate to the composer in musical terms such as orchestration, harmony, etc. Though I' m not sure if that helps in the collaboration. That's like talking to a writer in terms of grammer and vocabulary. It can be an advantage if a director/producer is musically literate, but does not have to be.
