Just finished listening to my 2 disc set. Very well done- the art work and liner notes, the placement of the scores. Wonderful, really. I don't know why I was sitting on the fence for this. Well worth the money- and it all sounds perfectly fine.
A great opportunity to connect with some forgotten film scores. I don't know how you and Nick do it.

We do it because we love it - this album especially, which I wanted to do for ages - I'm a Preminger FANatic and this music is just so what I'm about and Nick feels that way, too.

Any chance of bringing back Exodus and especially The Cardinal with better sound?
There was a 2001 Buddha Records CD of EXODUS with only marginally better sound quality that the 1988 RCA Records CD, both from a poor-quality album master. The 1999 RCA Spain CD of THE CARDINAL is preferable to the rather muddy sound quality of the 1987 Preamble CD (the RCA Spain contains all of the music found on the 1963 RCA Victor LP).
It would be a formidable task, but if anyone could tackle this project properly, it would be Kritzerland, with sources beyond the album masters. But in the meanwhile stick with the Tadlow re-recording of EXODUS, and the RCA Spain CD of THE CARDINAL along with the highly recommended Silva Screen re-recording of THE CARDINAL.

I know THE CARDINAL was originally meant as a roadshow, because I have a souvenir program, which is still obtainable now and then on E-Bay.
But, does anyone know if there were Overture, Intermission, Entr'acte, and Exit Music tracks?
Some of these films start out as roadshows, then quickly get pruned down to regular showings. Once, on Kaua'i, of all places, I saw a print of the Zeffirelli ROMEO AND JULIET that had an Intermission and Entr'acte, which I'd never seen before. Sometimes, like 55 DAYS AT PEKING, there's an Intermission and Entr'acte added to the laser release, or on TCM, which I never saw in a theatre.
THE CARDINAL was definitely an A-List production; so it's logical these tracks may exist somewhere. As I recall, the released lp was taken from the music tracks.

I'm always surprised when I read that 55 DAYS IN PEKING was not roadshown in America. As this ad shows, the film was receiving roadshow presentations in two cinemas at one stage in London:

I kind of remember Peking being a roadshow here in LA.
I hope I have the RCA Spain The Cardinal - I'll have to check. The video rights to The Cardinal, at least for the DVD, were with Warners. Exodus - they'd really have to have better sources than what's been out for me to even approach it and we've found it very difficult to license from RCA/Sony and we have no idea how long the Buddha license was for. Both CD releases of the RCA album are about as bad as it gets.

THE CARDINAL was indeed a roadshow film in NYC playing at the DeMille Theatre. It did not have an overture but certainly had an intermission and if I recall correctly an entr'acte as well as exit music.

Yes, the dialed-in Intermission end-of-Act I music (was there music originally for the long scene that ends Act I?) and the Entr'acte (which ends with the Stonebury theme, underscoring Fermoyle's ongoing spiritual journey) are on the DVD, but are not to be found on the LP/CD.
Also the final cue on the LP/CD ("The Cardinal Themes") appears on the DVD as the "Overture."
No exit music.

Maybe in Kaua'i ROMEO & JULIET was not a roadshow, but it certainly was in NYC, running for over 1 year before general release. The laser preserved the Intermission card, but not the Entr'acte music. I do not know what the DVD is like.

The old laser had no exit music either. I believe the old laser duplicated the Overture and Entr'acte music. However, The DVD presents this music only once, as Entr'acte music, there is no Overture on the DVD. This maybe a more accurate representation of the roadshow experience.
It may very well be that the LP's "The Cardinal Themes" cue took the film's Entr'acte, excised the Stonebury ending and replaced it with the End Title music.
