I've known this for a while, but now it's finally official: The french synth duo Air (who has worked with Sophia Coppola previously) has been slated to score the upcoming Norwegian oil thriller PIONEER (aka PIONÉR in Norwegian) -- also starring international stars like Stephen Lang and Wes Bentley. Great news:

The trailer:

Wow, this is exciting indeed. Director Erik Skjoldbjærg continues to work with interesting composers, after having worked repeatedly with Geir Jenssen (Biosphere) and Nicholas Sillitoe (Illumination and AM & The UV) on other films. I guess both Jenssen and Sillitoe would have liked to score Pioneer, though...

The electronica revolution in film scoring seem to continue. I just updated imdb wth this news.

The film is called PIONEER though, not PIONER.

The Norwegian title is PIONÉR, the English title PIONEER. But you're right....maybe the English title is more suitable for this forum.

The trailer is actually scored by Nicholas Sillitoe.

The film is partly funded in France, so that may explain why french composers got the gig.

Still haven't heard anything. Maybe they're waiting for the film's international premiere. It has already been out in Norway for several weeks.

Strange. I would believe that a group as big as Air would warrant a release as soon as the film was out in Norway..

Did you like the score?

I don't think so. You have to see the film to hear it.

As said earlier, I'm also surprised that there has been no mention of a score release? Air are very popular.

I finally saw the film. I found the score really good, varied stuff with several good themes, both for the opening and closing credits. There must have been at least 45 minutes of score in the film, maybe more.

I have no idea why a soundtrack album never came though, not even a download version.

Let's hope AIR continues to score movies, they have done 3 features by now, plus short films and some documentaries.
