SAE has removed the pre-order label from the entry on their main page and shows it as available. Maybe they will get my multi disc Quartet order in the mail to me today or tomorrow. smile

This would be my 41st Delerue CD in collection!

Just received Man, Women and Child today. I've never seen this kind of center spindle before. The bottom half has elevated "catchers", the top half doesn't. There are no plastic bits in the case so I don't think it's broken. Is this a new kind of mechanism?

Gave this a couple listens, nothing special from Delerue, definitely one of the composers lesser efforts. I have concluded that a lot of Delerue's scores are inter-changeable. I love Delerue, but really most of his music sounds the same ole same ole.

I think it's rather good. The first "theme" track has the kind of lush, popular treatment we've heard many times before, but once the score proper starts from track 2, I think it's high quality Delerue that doesn't disappoint. Doesn't sound like he's on autopilot to me – there will always be some Delerue that sounds familiar from score to score, but there's plenty here that's fresh and worthy of the great man. I particularly like the baroque-sounding pieces.

But I could have done without the badly sung vocal demo tracks in the extras.

The CD arrived today. The music is lush and romantic. Just what I would want from Georges Delerue. I look to the sky and say thank you sir. Thank you Quartet for putting this release out there for us to own.

No offense but I think it's vintage Delerue meaning it's beautiful and melancholic. Delerue's music always sooths me. Certainly not a lesser effort. His scores were often much better then the movies they accompanied not unlike another certain composer who scored a lot of crappy movies...

Received this today and wow - what a score. Delerue at his most melancholic, beautiful, and heart-rendering. Wonderful music and it sounds fantastic. Thanks so much Quartet for this one.

TO RM EASTMAN- I am sure anyone who loves DELERUE knows he does often comes close to repeating himself but he has done so much original stuff and there was always something new up his sleeve he would delivered with at times his repeated style, I always find it amusing how it does not seem people pick on screenplay writers novelist directors etc etc the same way as we often will pick on a composer because he is not original 100% of the time.

Now see, wouldn't it be nice if all discs actually lasted two months like this one did?

Interesting review. You like it more than I did when I watched the movie, but was pleased to read this: "The Edie Lehman-performed vocal version of the main theme, 'Never Gone', is pleasant enough though slightly let down by cloying lyrics." I'm pleased by your "cloying lyrics," which I thought were just dreadful. Indeed, I wish they had just given us Delerue's music and NOT the song at the end.

I'm surprised by the praise being heaped on this soundtrack above (although a few weren't impressed). When I watched the movie a few months ago after seeing the pre-order for the soundtrack, I never heard anything that made me want to buy it, and I have a huge Georges Delerue CD collection. But now, after some of the positive reviews, am having second thoughts about that decision.

By the way, anyone known who performed the alternate version of the song? It's not in the booklet.
And is Lehmann also singing the demo version?
