Gave this a couple listens, nothing special from Delerue, definitely one of the composers lesser efforts. I have concluded that a lot of Delerue's scores are inter-changeable. I love Delerue, but really most of his music sounds the same ole same ole.
No offense but I think it's vintage Delerue meaning it's beautiful and melancholic. Delerue's music always sooths me. Certainly not a lesser effort. His scores were often much better then the movies they accompanied not unlike another certain composer who scored a lot of crappy movies...

TO RM EASTMAN- I am sure anyone who loves DELERUE knows he does often comes close to repeating himself but he has done so much original stuff and there was always something new up his sleeve he would delivered with at times his repeated style, I always find it amusing how it does not seem people pick on screenplay writers novelist directors etc etc the same way as we often will pick on a composer because he is not original 100% of the time.

Interesting review. You like it more than I did when I watched the movie, but was pleased to read this: "The Edie Lehman-performed vocal version of the main theme, 'Never Gone', is pleasant enough though slightly let down by cloying lyrics." I'm pleased by your "cloying lyrics," which I thought were just dreadful. Indeed, I wish they had just given us Delerue's music and NOT the song at the end.
I'm surprised by the praise being heaped on this soundtrack above (although a few weren't impressed). When I watched the movie a few months ago after seeing the pre-order for the soundtrack, I never heard anything that made me want to buy it, and I have a huge Georges Delerue CD collection. But now, after some of the positive reviews, am having second thoughts about that decision.
