Alex Heffes. Nearly every time I hear one of his scores in a film (Touching the Void, The Last King of Scotland, The First Grader, The Rite, Emperor) I'm impressed. He hasn't blown me away yet, but he hasn't disappointed (well, maybe Red Riding Hood!), and I always feel like he's on the verge of a knockout. And then I search these boards and find no discussion of his work whatsoever except for Lokutus occasionally trying to drum up some interest.
Does anyone have any of his scores? What's your favorite of his?
We did have a short discussion on the film and score for Dear Frankie. The discussion took off in another direction after a few posts. See above. I thought Heffes' score for Dear Frankie was lovely.
He also recently released an album in collaboration with many artists... you should check it out in case you haven't heard it yet... more info at: http://www.face-to-face-album.com
It seems he has been quite busy scoring upcoming Stallone/Schwarzenegger movie, new Nelson Mandela biopic and also provided lovely but rather short score for direct-to-video movie Love and Honour earlier this year.
Hopefully at least Mandella and Escape Plan will get released properly when the time comes and hopefully they will bring him a little bit more well deserved attention.
Speaking of favorites, it's hard to pick just one... if I really had to, Dear Frankie would be my favorite followed by The First Grader (which actually made my Top 5 two years ago) nobody seems to have heard or watched, Imagine Me and You, Emperor, Last King of Scotland, The Rite and State of Play, which is imho also quite underrated.

Alex is indeed a very underrated and understated composer. He is one the the most talented composers of the day as well as one of the easiest people to work with. Hopefully both his talent and personality will soon be rewarded.
I just posted some photos from the sessions to Escape Plan at FB which is out next month. It's a thrilling score with lots of ferocity and many exciting cue highlights. More coverage in FSMO soon.
It seems this is another busy year for him with WHAT WE DID ON OUR HOLIDAY opening in September. He also scored "UNTITLED LANCE ARMSTRONG BIOPIC" for Stephen Frears and documentary TEN BILLION for director Peter Webber (Emperor, The Girl with the Pearl Earring).
Hopefully at least some of those will get released properly when the time comes...
First sample from his score for Stephen Frears' ICON (aka THE PROGRAM aka that untitled Lance Armstrong biopic) is now available on his Kraft/Engel agency page....
Sounds fantastic to me.... hopefully we'll get to hear the score on a CD when the time comes... it's been way too long since the last Alex Heffes' CD.... I assume the score must have been completed a while ago, right?
Always loved the on the runway cue from the last king of Scotland. Yes there was probably a temp track from casino royale but nonetheless a great action cue.
