Apart from the odd exception, I haven’t listened to ‘new’ pop music since the 80s.
70's for me. So for pop/rock it's 60's & 70's & film music it's 50's 60's 70's. There are a few exceptions outside of that time frame, but mostly that lot does it.
to Thomas- first off , they are not getting the same vibes from music as another is. Listening to the majestic theme from KING OF KINGS does not give off the same vibes as eerie chords in the score PSYCHO.People like me and there are many. love film scores because they fine the melodic line often a cut above a lot of the music from other fields of music.
Your sense of hubris is ill-judged, to say the least.
Svensktopp not so much. But opera? Sure, now and then. Not so much contemporary opera, but most of the classics -- including Wagner. And while 'death metal' isn't my favourite of the metal genres (there are some of them I absolutely dig), there's an occasional powerhouse of a song now and then. I like the bands Children of Bodom and In Flames, for example.
TO THOR- Yeah like contemporary classical along with contemporary opera. take film music the past 80 years any day. However so some pain in the neck don't make a wise-a--- remark, yes the classical greats MOZART, BEETHOVEN, CHOPIN WAGNER, ETC ETC ARE ALL GREAT, along with the old classic operas.
