Am I the only one who thought the songs DON'T work in the film?

I mean really?

No one else rolled their eyes at Quill's FOOTLOOSE speech with Gamorah which takes a scene that is already way too CUTE and then SLAMS YOU IN THE FACE with a song about FALLING IN LOVE while that is playing out right in front of our faces.... terrible!

I haven't hated a song use that bad since DRIVE where they used REAL HERO during the scene where our hero is acting like a human being which in case we miss, the song reminds us.

I thought this movie was BEYOND average. Not sure why everyone thinks its AMAZING but to each their own.

I like you a lot, but just can't agree with you on these. Of course the Elvin Bishop song plays when Quill is trying to seduce Gamora, the movie is largely a comedy and the scene even ends in a punchline. But maybe that's just how I see it, everyone will find something different in any scene in any movie.

Finally made my way through the whole score, and I gotta say this is my favorite Bates work so far. It's got a few tracks that pique my interest early on, but the second half of the album really shines for me. I really enjoy the action music and Guardians theme from 'The Kyln Escape', and once we get to 'Sacrifice' and the rest of the music from the film's climactic battle we've got well-done thematic action music interspersed with tender, emotional moments. The heroic 'Ballad of the Nova Corps' shows the pure nobility of the space police, which nicely contrasts with the Guardians (reluctant heroes). I think Bates did a really good job here, and hopefully his next few projects give him the freedom to keep composing like this.

And, atypically for myself, I also really enjoy the songs on the album. After a second viewing of the film, I appreciate how they are incorporated. Favorites: 'Come and Get Your Love' and 'Hooked on a Feeling' (they're both so catchy!)

I did like the use of both score and songs, although I must admit I'm glad the credits were exclusively devoted to Bates's score (and that they included "Groot Spores").

The score is just fine, it works perfectly in the movie (which was a hell of a lot of fun, and the most purely entertaining movie I've seen this year - this is where DC movies need to learn from Marvel films... try to umm, entertain the audience, not beat the over the head with f*cking gloom - The Dark Knight Rise pretty much imploded with the overload of hilarious seriousness and we can't even discuss the wretched Man Of Steel razz ) and also is a good listen apart from the movie.

The songs also were fine and worked very well. One of the few instances where I would not have minded a few MORE songs, since they used so successfully.

The Great Companion
The Collector
Sacrifice

What track or tracks would work best as a substitute end credit suite?

AND..it has a bit of a theme..which is , in my opinion , essential for building up a franchise!
HARRY POTTER,JAWS,STAR WARS,PIRATES OF THE C.,BACK TO THE FUTURE,BOND,MISS MARPLE,
BATMAN,etc.

This was really a movie that Horner should have scored in Battle Beyond the Stars mode. (but he would most likely hate to score this type of movie now)

Anyways... what I didn't get in the movie, is when the hero saves the green lady in the utter cold of space... and then she wakes up/get better, just like that? Felt weird... did I miss something here? Did she have super healing powers or something?

(I always compare space exposure to the scene in Sunshine)

The movie did mention she had been genetically and technologically advanced to be a killing machine for Thanos, so she could have stayed out in space who knows how long. Plus, there's this:

I created a suite of the tracks I liked and it came out pretty well. A little lengthy but it captured the main ideas. I used these in the following order:

To The Stars
Marvel Fanfare (From the Thor: The Dark World score)
The Ballad of the Nova Corps
The Collector
The Great Companion
Sacrifice
Groot Spores
The Final Battle
Groot Cocoon
Black Tears
A Nova Upgrade

I only wish they would have had a "finale" in the end where the main theme made one appearance. Overall, this is still the best Tyler score I've heard yet.
