1984 is filled with a lot of childhood favorites. The "84 Trifecta" for me is Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Ghostbusters and Gremlins. They are also the earliest theatrical films that I have the clearest memories of seeing.
My Top 10 (in alphabetical order)

DIDN'T LIKE: The Company of Wolves, Hard to Hold, The Ice Pirates, Red Dawn, Streets of Fire.

As for Gremlins, I need to revisit it, as my childhood memories are full of repeated viewings of the sequel -- even though I could probably still recite large chunks of the original verbatim, I don't think I really got into it until around the time the sequel was released,
Funny enough, I didn't care for the sequel when it first came out because I didn't like the change in tone to being more of a straight-on comedy. I started liking it years later, though, but still prefer the original. My mom has often told the story about how she took me to see the original in the theater, and I was enjoying it just fine until the evil gremlins showed up, then I was wanted to leave. Haha! She made me stay, though, and of course I was later glad she did because I ended up loving it. I spent the rest of that summer running around the neighborhood with a plush Gizmo (which I still have) hanging out of my backpack. 
It's interesting to me now to consider how childhood favorite stack up against "classics" from these early years of my life.
It is always interesting to go back and visit other films from that time that you never saw then, just because they were of a different genre or perhaps "adult" movies compared to the things you liked as a kid. But even if there are other movies that may technically be "better" than my childhood favorites, I usually still prefer the latter because those are the movies that became the most personal to me.
