BBC America inadvertently revealed a potential time of broadcast for the 50th Anniversary Special, The Day of the Doctor, when they updated their advance schedules for November online. The (provisional) details indicated that after a week-long celebration of the series, it would premiere on 23rd November at 2:45pm Eastern time, meaning a UK broadcast of the 75-minute special would occupy a prime-time slot at 7:45pm (possibly after Strictly Come Dancing in such a scenario). However, BBC America have confirmed that the schedule for the week leading up to the anniversary has yet to be finalised, and that the broadcast mentioned above is currently only a 'placeholder' until the BBC lock the exact time down - the BBC themselves are unlikely to confirm such a definite time until much closer to the date (which could be a lead time of just ten days before broadcast!) As well as episodes and documentaries, other programming planned by BBC America over the course of the week includes: the US premiere of An Adventure in Space and Time (provisionally scheduled for Friday 22nd November at 9:00pm, and not expected to be simulcast with BBC2 in the UK!); Explaining Doctor Who, which UK channel Watch have scheduled for 12th October as part of their Doctor Who Revisited launch day; and other 'talking-head' items including Tales from the TARDIS and a special 15-minute Day of the Doctor Pre-Show (the provisional schedule indicated 7:00pm on the Saturday before a prime-time repeat of the episode). As noted, all schedules are subject to change. http://www.doctorwhonews.net/2013/10/dotd-time-091013093008.html

FOX appear to be the first channel to announce their broadcast of the Christmas adventure The Time of The Doctor, which is due to be seen in Germany at 9:35pm CET on Christmas Day. In their press release for December highlights, the channel said: WHO LOVES CHRISTMAS: Das DOCTOR WHO - WEIHNACHTSSPECIAL 14., 21., 24 und 25. Doctor Who celebrates Christmas with a Special, which for Matt Smith is also his last appearance in the title role. For this Special, FOX will show all of Matt's episodes. There'll be three Doctor Who "squadrons" within three days: Series 5 begins on 14th December from 12:05, Series 6 on the 21st also from 12:05, and then Series 7 is divided for Christmas Eve (from 17:45) and the first holiday (13:55). This is followed directly by the Christmas Special at 21:35, which we present to you as the German premiere. The time should not be used as an indication that the UK premiere will be at 8:35pm, as there is no intention to simulcast the festive adventure as with the Anniversary last weekend. The actual broadcast time will certainly be confirmed within the next couple of weeks, as the Radio Times "legendary Christmas double issue" (21 Jan - 3 Jan) is due to be published in limited numbers on 7th December and countrywide from the 9th. http://www.doctorwhonews.net/2013/11/time-germany-271113100008.html

BBC America has announced the Blu-ray release of series showrunner and head writer Steven Moffat's Doctor Who: The Time of the Doctor, the 2013 Christmas Special set to air on BBC America on December 25th. The latest installment in the ongoing 50-year Doctor Who series stars Matt Smith as the Doctor, and comes to Blu-ray on March 4, 2014. Synopsis: Orbiting a quiet backwater planet, the massed forces of the universe's deadliest species gather, drawn to a mysterious message that echoes out to the stars. Among them is the Doctor (Smith). Rescuing Clara (Jenna Coleman) from a family Christmas dinner, the Time Lord and his Companion must learn what this enigmatic signal means for his own fate and that of the universe. Orla Brady (Fringe, Mistresses) guest stars as Tasha Lem. Lead writer and executive producer Steve Moffat commented: "It's his final battle and he's been fighting it for a while. The Doctor is facing the joint challenge of a mysterious event in space that has summoned lots of aliens to one place and helping Clara cook Christmas dinner. There are also elements from every series of Matt's Doctor, which will come to a head in this special. Things that we've laid down for years are going to be paid off. " The Time of the Doctor is presented in 1080p with DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround (the new standard for Doctor Who releases going forward). Special features include: •Behind the Lens: It's Christmas! A time for peace and goodwill to all. But hang on, its Doctor Who, surely it can't be that simple? We take a peek behind the lens on this cracker of a Christmas special. The tinsel is out at the Oswald's and we meet a familiar enemy in a new form. The Doctor comes face to face with the enigmatic Tasha Lem and makes a new friend. With Matt Smith, Orla Brady, Jenna Coleman, Steven Moffat, Danny Hargreaves, Jack Hollington, Sheila Reid, James Buller and Elizabeth Rider. •Farewell to Matt Smith: Narrated by Alex Kingston (River Song), This compelling, hour-long special looks back at Matt Smith's extraordinary tenure as the Eleventh Doctor, featuring highlights from the show and copious interview footage with Matt, his cast-mates, writers, producers, guest stars and celebrity Doctor Who fans. •Tales from the TARDIS: A look back at the full, 50-year history of the iconic series. Eleventh Doctor Matt Smith and past Doctors David Tennant, Sylvester McCoy, Colin Baker, Peter Davison and Tom Baker tell what it was like to be the Doctor, how they got the job and how it changed their lives. With companions Jenna Coleman, Karen Gillan, Arthur Darvill, and more, this truly insightful special offers a unique insight into the world's longest running sci-fi series. http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=12851
