I would think it would be Desplat, Giacchino and for Rich Dreamers, John Williams.

What 3 composers of today would do you think are most sought after?

I don't see how you can leave Zimmer off this list. Whatever one might think of him creatively, he's clearly constantly in demand, and on high profile projects.

I would take Williams off the list. He's a legend, of course, but I don't expect most filmmakers consider him even an option.

Brian Tyler seems to score a lot of (blockbuster)films as well today, I'm sure he's in demand as well. Not certain if he'd make top 3 though.

Ah yes, the Hans Brigade. I really love his DA VINCI scores!

You never know. He recently signed on to that THE BOOK THIEF film by a relatively unknown director.

I would say the top three are John Williams, Hans Zimmer and Alexandre Desplat. And maybe Danny Elfman.

It says "composers" in the subject.

Of course, Zimmer (which includes the army of minions that do the work after Hansi has sealed the deal). Brian Tyler, Marco Beltrami & Alexandre Desplat.

I know nothing about his music or pretty much any of the films he's worked on, but isn't that Beltrami chap quite popular?

Yes, as far as demand goes I think I'd put him on the same level as composers like Brian Tyler, John Debney ...

I watch a lot of movies and quite recently I thought that there are two composers who apparently scored a lot of those movies I`ve seen during the last year and those two are Brian Tyler (as mentioned previously in this thread) and I would also add another one that no one have mentioned earlier and that is John Debney.

Thomas Newman must be in high demand and what about Ennio Morricone?. He doesn't work as much as he used to but I suspect he gets plenty of offers.

Yes, I wonder how they managed to hire him? It's only the director's second feature.

Desplat is the only composer who is wanted for any genre : Independant movies, Oscar type movies, animation films, blockbusters, foreigh films...

I can't see any other composers with so many different films. During the last three years : The King's Speech, Harry Potter, Tree of life, 2 Polanki films, The Ides of Marsh, Argo, Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, Zero Dark 30, Moonrise Kingdom, Rise of the Guardian, Zulu, Godzilla, the next S. Frears... not to mention important French films (My Way, Rust and Bone, Renoir, The Pagnol films).

He's not confined to a specific genre. So, I guess you can say he's the most sought after composer.

I gather that John Williams doesn't get as many offers as you'd think these days for whatever reason. Presumably the offer was made (maybe as a long shot or perhaps one of the producers worked with him before?) and JW decided that the project interesting him. It certainly sounds like it could be a good film.

I would think James Horner, Alan Silvestri, John Powell, James Newton Howard, and Alan Menken are or would be in great demand.
