Knowing of my fondness for WWII books, movies and music, a friend recommended this book to me. She also mentioned there is a movie and of course my antennae detected the possibility of a score!

I inend to pick up the book and view the movie but I was able to sample the score on iTunes. I recognized the composer - Richard Rodney Bennett - from the movie Murder on the Orient Express. I was so impressed by what I heard that I purchased the score.

I would like rcommend this score to those who are not familiar with it. I had the cd copy on my Amazon wish list but I was a day late in snagging it - dumb luck. I am settling for the digital version but an enjoying that.

There's a CD up for grabs on Amazon UK.

To my knowledge there has never been a "legit" CD of the TER LP.

I still own my TER LP! smile

I bought "The Return Of The Soldier" on vinyl around 1985, and it's been a favorite of mine ever since.

Also, the U.K. NMC classical label had done a suite of Bennett's music for this film:

There is a "Disc on Demand" edition of the score available from TER.

I picked it up a while ago, and it sounds terrific. A wonderful score from a brilliant composer.

Guess that's the way to go then.

Dear God, how did I make that blooper. I was spell checking on Google and cut and pasted the wrong name lol. I am sure the late Richard Rodney Bennett forgives me. Thanks for letting me know.

I too had that LP years ago, very nice score even though my copy was a little warped which unfortunately happened at times with old vinyl.
