John Boorman tells a great anecdote about this one.
Somewhere en route to location, in a S. E. Asia airport, he and Lee were approached by a US General on his way to the Nam, with 'I've always wanted to meet you, I do so appreciate your work' etc..
LM .... 'You a General? ... I don't like Generals'.
LM .... 'I like your hat though.'
LM .... 'I've never seen so much stuff on a hat before. Is that scrambled egg on your hat? You've got a lot of scrambled egg there'.
LM .... 'I like scrambled egg. Can I try on that hat?'
General ... 'Why, by all means, Mr. Marvin.'
LM .... 'I like scrambled eggs'. I like this hat. I'm gonna eat that hat.'
Conversation continues politely betwixt Boorman and general. LM eats hat.
General's aide arrives: 'Your helicopter is waiting sir'.
General leaves.
Minutes later, aide returns: 'Excuse me gentlemen, but the general was wondering if he could have his hat back'.
According to Nick Redman, it's tied up in a rights issue. The score itself, is very avant garde, very THX-1138 and THE HELLSTROM CHRONICLE, both of which I enjoy. However, I have the dvd by MGM, and I can eventually see the score released. By whom, I have no idea.
