THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 26

EAST OF EDEN---THE HUNGER GAMES duo of Jennifer Lawrence and director Gary Ross will reunite for two movies based on novels. The first is John Steinbeck's EAST OF EDEN which was made into a 1955 movie that starred James Dean and Julie Harris. The second movie is based on the novel BURIAL RITES which is set in 1829 Iceland and involves a young woman who is sentenced to death for murdering two men.





BOY SCOUTS VS. ZOMBIES---Paramount Pictures movie underway about a Boy Scout troop which is attacked by a pack of zombies. Christopher Landon, son of Michael Landon, is the director.





FRANKIE & ALICE---movie starring Halle Berry and Stellan Skarsgard about a woman with multiple personality disorder premiers on April 4, 2014. The movie originally had a limited release in 2010.





BATTLE CREEK---new CBS series from Vince Gilligan (BREAKING BAD) about two cops with different personalities fighting crime in Battle Creek, Michigan. Joe Carnahan (THE A-TEAM, THE GREY) is the director.

ANGEL TIMES---new CBS series based on Anne Rice's THE SONGS OF THE SERAPHIM novels in which a New Orleans hitman meets an angel and seeks redemption for his past misdeeds.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE---Robert De Niro will replace the late James Gandolfini in this HBO seven-part miniseries about an ambulance-chasing New York lawyer who defends a Pakistani man accused of murdering a young girl. Kiefer Sutherland and Kate Hudson also star.

ARMY WIVES---Lifetime canceled the series due to low ratings.

SCARECROW---Syfy movie about a group of teens who are stranded in the countryside and are attacked by the urban legend of a monstrous scarecrow. Lacey Chabert stars. Premiere is October 5.

THOSE WHO WISH ME DEAD---20th Century Fox movie underway based on the novel about a teenage murder witness and a survival expert who is assigned to protect him who are being pursued by twin assassins in the Montana wilderness during a raging forest fire.

THE BANSHEE CHAPTER---horror movie about a female journalist seeking to find her friend who is participating in a secret government experiment involving mind-altering drugs. Zachary Quinto is the producer.

THE FACILITY---horror movie about participants in a clinical trial of an experimental drug Pro-9 which results in murderous side effects.

I'm pretty much Zombie'd out by now. Can Hollywood find a new fad already?

East of Eden = b-b-b-bad idea. I thought this and RWAC was the best of Dean's movies and is IMO one of those 'it cannot be bettered so don't bother'.

TO MIKEY- I agree I always liked genre films but I just don't know the lasting appeal of zombie films, the dullest genre creatures that ever came down the pipe.

It depends on what they make out of it. If it's just a rehash of the 1955 movie - that's a bad idea, sacrilege! Competing with THE James Dean, Elia Kazan and Leonard Rosenman can only fail. If they are approaching a different part of the novel it may be something. Steinbeck's novel offers material for five movies...
