Finally got around to check this out. I actually wasn't aware it had got a release until a few days ago. Although I hadn't really looked for it either. It's quite a cool score. Very thematic (which is a must for me to enjoy a score), with the use of choir, drums and those "string-rythm--riffs" (or what you wanna call them). Reminds me a bit of Narnia (the HG-W one(s)) and National Treasure. It does sound a bit Rabin-like (or very Rabin in parts), and Zimmer'ish (that is, Zimmer pre-2004-07). For me that's a good thing. But it for sure kicks anything from Zimmer & co the last few years in the **... It's way more listenable, and enjoyable, that's for sure. Too bad it's such a short release (~30 min.). I haven't seen the film, and maybe there's not a lot of music in it, but for that kind of film, it would be strange if it's not at least that much more... I wouldn't mind hearing more of the variations of the themes though. I think I've never heard this kind of (big/hollywood/zimmer-/rabin-style) "sound" from a norwegian film/score before. If I had heard the score without knowing what it was, I would never have guessed it's from a norwegian film.

I just saw the film. Not a classic by any means, but I guess the kids loved it. And splendid norwegian nature, of course. The music...I liked the Rabin-like theme, but the rest of it just gets too Hollywoodized for me. Sure, Beite knows what he's doing (I guess he has learned it all at school) but I couldn't help but thinking what a less traditional score would have done here. One name came to mind...Erik Wøllo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0SCsCfK2CYw Or even Øystein Ramfjord (Amethystium) could have done good here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_CfXjPe_GII&index=13&list=PLOZfI4BKsWqMx4c1wk25c7_BQiUoc0Gcb I can't quite hear the required energy in those tracks, I'm afraid. It would also be at odds with the type of film they were making. But lovely cues in and of themselves. I could certainly hear them in another setting and for another type of film, washing slowly over the landscapes. I still think this score is the best thing Beite has done in an action idiom. The clips I sent could of course not be used for tension or action scenes, these are more in the main theme or collage areas. But I'm sure Wøllo or Ramfjord could fix action too. I don't at all think they are at odds with the type of film this is. Particularly Wøllo has a very norwegian style in his music. I came to think of it, a band like Seigmen would have been brilliant for this film. Just about anything to get it less traditional and Hollywood, really. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5UnOKyhsqRg&list=PL3XfDDPdR1ECTT5JfQMlNmzB92gt4TKdm
