FRIDAY, OCTOBER 11

SABOTAGE---Michael Bay World War II movie underway based on the upcoming book SABOTAGE: A GENIUS SCIENTIST, HIS BAND OF YOUNG COMMANDOS AND THE MISSION TO KILL HITLER'S SUPER BOMB. The plot involves a scientist who escapes from the Nazis and tells the British about Germany's atomic bomb project located in a fortress near Telemark, Norway. British-trained Norwegian commandos are assigned to destroy the facility to cripple the program. The mission was made into the 1965 movie THE HEROES OF TELEMARK which starred Kirk Douglas and Richard Harris.

UNBROKEN---photo released of Olympic star/POW Louis Zamperini and director Angelina Jolie from the biomovie about Zamperini's ordeal as a POW in World War II.

DOCTOR WHO---Nine "lost" episodes from the 1960s that haven't been seen in 46 years were discovered in Nigeria. They comprise two stories with Patrick Troughton as Doctor Who: "The Enemy of the World" and "The Web of Fear". Both have been remastered and are available for viewing on iTunes.

SUPERMAN VS. BATMAN---Quentin Tarantino commented on Ben Affleck as Batman, “I have to admit that I don’t really have an opinion. Why? Because Batman is not a very interesting character. For any actor. There is simply not much to play. I think Michael Keaton did it the best, and I wish good luck to Ben Affleck. But, you know who would have made a great Batman? Alec Baldwin in the ’80s.”
He said about THE LONE RANGER starring Johnny Depp, “The first forty-five minutes are excellent…the next forty-five minutes are a little soporific. It was a bad idea to split the bad guys in two groups; it takes hours to explain and nobody cares. Then comes the train scene—incredible! When I saw it, I kept thinking, ‘What, that’s the film that everybody says is crap? Seriously?’

INDIANA JONES 5---Harrison Ford said about appearing in STAR WARS: EPISODE VII that he has, "not quite made the choice", but he said about appearing in another Indiana Jones movie, "I would do it in a New York minute, yes. I don’t think there is any barrier to Indiana Jones being an old fart...I’m old enough that we don’t need Connery anymore. I’m old enough to play my own father!"

AMERICAN HORROR STORY: COVEN---the Season 3 premiere had a record 5.5 million viewers which is a 44% increase over the previous record.

LAW & ORDER: SVU---Richard Belzer is leaving the series. Sgt. John Munch will be leaving SVU to take a job as a special investigator for the DA's office. This will allow Belzer to guest star in future episodes.

HUNTERS---new Syfy series underway from Gale Anne Hurd (THE WALKING DEAD) based on the Whitley Strieber (COMMUNION) novel about a police detective who is the top suspect in his wife's mysterious disappearance. He discovers aliens are secretly living on Earth and are abducting humans. The detective joins a covert government group assigned to battle the aliens and hopefully find his wife.

THE COLONY---CW sci fi series underway in which Earth colonists arrive on Mars and make a shocking discovery. The plot is based on The Lost Colony in the 16th century where a British colony in North Carolina mysteriously disappeared.

PRESIDENT X---TNT series underway in which the President of the United States awakens from a year-long coma after a failed assassination attempt. Now out of office, he seeks to find the assassin.

WHILE WE WERE YOUNG---Emma Watson stars in this movie based on the novel 29 in which a 75-year-old grandmother gets her birthday wish to be 29 again for one day.

THE SILENT WIFE---Nicole Kidman is the star/producer of this movie based on the novel about an affluent Chicago couple in which the wife seeks deadly revenge on her cheating husband.

MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.---Jamie Foxx and director Oliver Stone are in talks to join this biomovie

GAY SUPERHEROES---Lee Daniels (THE BUTLER) is developing a movie about a gay, interracial superhero couple with Alex Pettyfer (MAGIC MIKE) playing one of the superheroes.

I wonder if they will film the boat leaving Norway / arriving in the UK in the same place as they did for Heroes of Telemark, which happened to be my home town in the UK (albeit before I was born)? Somehow I think not wink

Just keep George Lucas away from the script for Indy5, the last one stunk.

I agree about the script, although Spielberg's direction was unbelievably flaccid and Ford looked liked he had forgotten how he portrayed the character in the three proper Indy movies.

I don't think I could stand another!

George didn't write the actual script, though, just the basics of the story, as he'd done with the previous ones; the script was by David Koepp, and I'd agree that it's unfortunately the weakest of the four. However, I personally think there are really only two things wrong with Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, and unfortunately one of them is the script (the other being the cinematography, which just doesn't fit with Douglas Slocombe's work on the first three the way it should). I personally loved Harrison Ford in the fourth film, though, just as I loved his four previous performances in the role, and I also find a lot of other redeeming qualities in the movie.

I'd just hope that if a fifth is made, the script would be better; fortunately, since out of the numerous scriptwriters (as opposed to story man George) there are very few who've worked on more than one, and none credited on more than one, it seems reasonable to hope and think a fifth movie would have someone other than Koepp writing, and also it surely wouldn't have the same tortured gestation that led to the filmmakers going with Koepp's script before it had really been polished. There's therefore plenty of reason to hope and even expect a fifth film's script to be better than the fourth's, and that alone should make for a better movie (and better still if Steven Spielberg let Janusz Kaminski go for once and used, say, Dean Cundey, though I'm less optimistic about that happening since Steven's used Janusz for pretty much everything for the last two decades now).

Indie needs to retire. Give it up already.

Indy the character has already been established as being active into his early '90s, though, and I certainly don't think Harrison would have too much trouble doing another movie of this sort if they did it soon enough.

@ JOE E

Well, we agree. Apparently the Frank Darabont script was much better, but George shot it down.

And Slocombe's camera work was really beautiful and full of life and color. Last Crusade in particular is really gorgeous. Steven was in his desaturated look with Indy 4 and it looks crappy.

There are some other good choices around the could use for Indy 5 script and camera work, hopefully they do that.

Michael Bay, the worst director in Hollywood, in the footsteps of Anthony Mann. Yeah, that can only end well.
