Toy Story of Terror, a 30-minute Pixar TV special taking place after Toy Story 3, (the plot: "Bonnie is on a road trip to go see grandma with her mom and the toys are in the trunk . . . Mom gets a flat tire and they have to spend the night at a motel and all kinds of chaos ensues.") is premiering this Wednesday. Michael Giacchino has taken the reigns from theatrical series composer Randy Newman. Looks like the score is coming, as a download at least, on Tuesday: http://www.amazon.com/Toy-Story-of-Terror/dp/B00FLLNBW2

Looks like it runs about 21 minutes, which sounds about right because the average 30-minute show is 22 minutes plus ads. Tracklist:

1. The Suspension Is Killing Me (0:44)
2. Thinking Inside the Box (1:40)
3. Motel Me a Scary Story (1:07)
4. I've Got a Bag Feeling About This (1:45)
5. Why'd It Have to Be Crawl Spaces? (1:15)
6. The Ballad of Combat Carl (2:33)
7. Iguana Be Kidding Me (4:03)
8. Nobody Puts Jessie in the Box (1:33)
9. Rock 'Em Box 'Em Robots (1:31)
10 Pink Peanut Panic (1:23)
11. World's Worst Curtain Call (2:31)
12. FedExit (End Credits) (0:53)

This is quite short; it's too bad they didn't take the opportunity to release a CD with this plus his other Pixar shorts "La luna," "Day & Night," "Partly Cloudy" and any others I may have forgotten.

Wow... well I guess his feelings about Randy Newman continuing as the musical voice on the TOY STORY projects aren't as strong as how he feels about John Williams continuing on STAR WARS!

Agreed I would love for Pixar/Disney/Intrada to release a CD of his various Pixar music, there is a great many wonderful tracks.

So this is an MP3 only release. I can't wait to hear something from this. No samples as of yet. I might have to wait til it airs next week.

In the '90s!

Today, a network half-hour is typically a few seconds under twenty minutes.

Good to see Giacchino hasn't lost his knack for delightfully punny track titles.

Favorite: The Suspension Is Killing Me!

If they are putting this out...why can't they put out his scores for Prep & Landing the same way!!!

Great idea! Just suggested it at the Intrada forum.

Maybe they asked Randy Newman and he turned them down (even though every time he does TV he seems to win an Emmy - cf. CopRock and Monk. Twice in the case of the latter).

It's quite astonishing they are releasing a score to a 22 minute animated short.

It's quite astonishing they are releasing a score to a 22 minute animated short.

This actually seems to be the new company byline for Disney. They have been letting the vaults open immediately for most of their animated fare as of the last year. Unfortunately, it is slower for the retroactive releases. However, the two most recent theatrical Disney shorts, Paperman and The Blue Umbrella both have their scores available from digital music stores. A handy tip is to go to Amazon's mp3 page, search for "Disney", select "show all albums" and then sort by release date. You will see that they have been very giving lately, even simultaneously releasing most of the current theme park albums as they've been released. As I said, there is a bit of archival stuff slipping through the tracks as well, so I am hopeful that we will indeed see some of this older material show up down the line. At the very least, I'm confident any future Giacchino Pixar shorts music will likely see release digitally.

Oh wow I didn't know that! I just watched Paperman and was thinking how lovely the music was. Never crossed my mind it would be available for download.

Giacchino's taste for track titles never ceases to impress.

I want Prep & Landing! (And Naughty v.s Nice.)

But I'm sure I'll be glad that this is available too.

When was the last time Newman did TV? And he hasn't done any of the shorts.

When was the last time Newman did TV?

When he did an original song for the series finale of Monk.

Wow, that’s good. I haven’t seen the last few seasons of Monk.

Heck, I wasn’t even thinking of It’s a Jungle Out There.

Taken apart from Monk, that's a heartbreaking song. Word of advice: don't listen to that when you're in the middle of a divorce!
