For a very long period (20 years or perhaps longer), there were no new soundtracks released containing film music by Daniele Amfitheatrof.

One Label X CD (from the 1980s?), and 2 LPs (THE SPANISH AFFAIR & MAJOR DUNDEE) plus some selections on a few older LPs. This was the extent of the Amfitheatrof discography.

In 2008, FSM spearheaded a mini-revival of music by "Amfi", his nick-name.

Or is it a revival?

Across the 4 albums issued between 2008 and 2012, Amfitheatrof's music was combined with film scores by others. Apparently, stand-alone albums of all-Amfitheatrof programs are not feasible and, as a result, Amfi needs to be packaged into CD sets focusing on genre rather than relying on his name to sell the soundtracks.

What do you think about the recent treatments of Daniele A.?

It is remarkable that Amfitheatrof music gets released at all - and I'm grateful for this!
I would not have believed back in - say - 1999 that unreleased Amfitheatrof scores would surface in 2008 and beyond.

Yet ... he also seems a tough sell and his soundtracks may be viewed as filler by some folks who are more interested in the other companion scores within the sets.

Here's the group of CDs from the past 5 years:

2008: FSM released two Westerns by Amfitheatrof in a 3-CD of 5 scores.

2009: a Varese Sarabande club CD pairs Amfitheatrof with Hugo Friedhofer's LYDIA BAILEY.

2010: FSM again offers us 2 by Amfitheatrof in a 5-disc set of LASSIE.

and in 2012: Intrada issues a 2-CD set of George Pal movies from Paramount, which contains THE NAKED JUNGLE.

What are your feelings about the music of Amfitheatrof and how they are packaged by the specialty labels?

[FYI: Amfitheatrof was the reason why I bought the Intrada Pal set. I got Varese's CD initially to acquire Friedhofer, but wound up loving BIRD OF PARADISE even more! Regarding the FSM sets, I got them because I like the multiple composers such as Kaper or Previn or Elmer B.]

Thanks for bringing up the music of Am- fi- the -a- trof (my guess).

I have all of those outstanding releases except for WHEN WORLDS COLLIDE/THE NAKED JUNGLE ,etc. -- I forgot that DA wrote the music for NJ -- another reason to buy that collection.

Glad to have joggled your memory about THE NAKED JUNGLE, although NJ's music score is so memorable it's a wonder you forgot DA score it.

Hope Intrada's set is selling OK; seems my thread prompted at least one more future sale. smile

We should also include Amfitheatrof's underscore on Disney's SONG OF THE SOUTH and on Paramount's THE MOUNTAIN (paired with Young's OMAR KHAYYAM on Decca)---two other LPs released in the 1950s.

I would think that an expanded THE MOUNTAIN would be possible from Kritzerland if the masters still exist---though there might be an inherent licensing problem with Universal Music Group.

How much of the underscore to SONG OF THE SOUTH was on the LP? I wish I had that one.

Hey philiperic, I hope you got a chance to order this Intrada album before it went out of stock.

I have the Song of the South LP on Disneyland Records. There are 2 instrumental selections from
the score by Amfitheatrof: Ginny & Johnny and Uncle Remus Leaves.

There is a whole web site devoted to Song of the South:
songofthesouth.net
