At this time of the 25th Anniversary of “Mystery Science Theater 3000” it may be fun to note that many of the film scores for the movies that appeared on MST3K have turned up on CD albums!

1. The eight single CD incarnations (and a different box set) for the “Gamera” films.

2. Monstrous Movie Music has several releases with an MST3K connection –
- “Rocketship X-M”
- “Project Moon Base”
- “Creature from the Black Lagoon” has tracks re-used in “Revenge of the Creature”
- “Monstrous Movie Music” has “Gorgo” which is featured in the new MST3K 25h Anniversary DVD box set .
- “More Monstrous Movie Music” has a little “Mole People”
- “The Blob” CD has added tracks from the Valentino Production Music Library that pop up in more than one MST3K related film
- “This Island Earth” – the film featured in ‘Mystery Science Theater 3000 – the Movie’

3. Kritzerland – “Invasion USA/Tormented” and “Earth Vs. the Spider”

4. Varese has a little “Deadly Mantis” on “Themes from Classic Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films”

5. The MST3K finale episode “Danger: Diabolik” has an Ennio Morricone score – hopefully on a specialty shop’s CD to-do list.

A great yet-to-appear MST3K related CD would be ‘Daddy-O’ by Johnny Williams!

On a related note, there have been 2 collections of all the little ditties that Joel & Mike & The Bots performed on the show over the years, called "Clowns In The Sky".

I don't own them, so I have no idea whether of not they are official product, or fan made. But the bits are all a scream.

My recollection is that both the "Clowns in the Sky" and "Clowns in the Sky II" CD releases were put out by the owner of the show (Best Brains) in the late 1990's. No film score material. They included different incarnations of the show's opening theme song and the episode closing MST Love Theme.

5. “Danger: Diabolik” - used for the MST3K finale episode has a score CD (from Italy?) – hopefully on a specialty shop’s CD to-do list.

The CD is a boot using the film tracks. The original score tracks are long gone.

"The Canada Song" from Vol. 2.
I love it whenever Servo loses it.

(sobbing) "Pardon et moi...".
Cracks me up.

Jameson281,
Thanks for the clarification on "Danger: Diabolik". I changed the original post. I've never been sure about that business when the disc is obscure and from Europe.

The release of the music for "High School Big Shot" is another CD title of an MST3K episode!

Also, "Phantom Planet" has music from Leith Steven's "Destination Moon".

The opening title of Village Of The Giants appears as the "theme" from Tarantino's Death Proof. You can also get The Beau (Bridges) Brummels songs from various sources.

Let's not forget the BSX release of Richard Band and Joel Goldsmith's LASERBLAST.

What an honor to be at the forefront of music for MST3K movies! Have a couple more titles in the pipeline that were also featured on the show.

Oh, yes, can't forget "Laserblast"!

The synth score for "Time Chasers" is also available on CD...including the Love Theme!

The 2 minutes and 51 seconds from "The Mole People" is Bliss!

Thanks So Much!

Still hoping that before I die I can record the entire score. It's a wonderful one, mostly Salter and Roemheld, with just a few choice Stein moments, albeit important ones!

I would not be surprised if tracks from "This Island Earth" are in some MST3K films (like "The Deadly Mantis"?) as well as being the featured film in the MST3K Movie.

Most of the original THIS ISLAND EARTH music is in the MST3K movie that used that film. But the TIE music isn't in any of the other Universal movies that MST3K did send-ups on, such as THE DEADLY MANTIS. Except for a couple of short cues, the score for THE DEADLY MANTIS is original, co-written by Irving Gertz and William Lava. Well, ALMOST original. Gertz also used some of the music in THE MONOLITH MONSTERS, as we was scoring both films at the same time.

At the risk of sounding ungrateful for all the great music already released,
how cool would it be to have a CD of the score to "The Deadly Mantis"?!

I have a distant recollection that the music of "This Island Earth" is in another film or other movies somewhere?

And thought sure that there is an MST3K movie that mentioned during the movie a re-use of "This Island Earth" music, but, of course, that might just have been a similar sounding theramin-ish moment.

No Theremin in THIS ISLAND EARTH. I go over that "mistake" in my liner notes to the score. Yes, DEADLY MANTIS would make for a great recording. It's on my own wish list. We did get a world premiere concert performance to happen of the cue "Eskimos Attacked" by Gertz. I and others think it was the hit of the concert. There are a few short instances of THIS ISLAND EARTH music being re-recorded and/or re-used in other movies, but not many. And lots of times people confuse these things, getting Stein's music mixed up with Salter's and THIS ISLAND EARTH's music mixed up with IT CAME FROM OUTER SPACE, THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING MAN, or some other Universal movie. My liner notes go into a few of the TIE re-uses, almost all of which occurred in really low-budget movies where the original tracks were re-used without the proper permissions.

Pure guess, but it might have been the MST3K episode of "It Conquered the World" (A Ronald Stein scored movie episode of MST3K!) that mentions the music for "This Island Earth".

...added note, the cable horror-hosted show "Svengoolie" is airing "The Thing that Couldn't Die" (also an MST3K movie) and it sounds like the opening minute or so of music is "This Island Earth"!
