I've discovered a gem of soundtracks composed by Master Goldsmith knew not. SEBASTIAN. It is simply EXQUISITE!!!. From yesterday to today I will hear as about 4 times and I have wanted to listen yet again. Thank you very much Mr. Fakes by editing this great work of Jerry Goldsmith.

See my new message titled "Que Cue:" to be posted on resequencing the cues in a perhaps better program. On a little historic note, the opening rhythmic beat in the "main title" was used as an identifying "sound symbol" in a television news show by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) soon after the soundtrack was realeased on an LP disk around 1970 but the dates of this use escape me for now.

I agree with topic headline for 146%!
My copy arrived yesterday, and Sebastian is one of the reason, why I don't follow my Halloween-list! wink
[Another reasons are: Days Of Wine And Roses, The Carpetbaggers, The Miracle, The Detective/Von Ryan's Express]
It's sounds so 60s, that I even can't describe it in words. The only one minus - I prefer "music only", so I removed all replicas before Tristram Cary's tracks, but this is very little minus. big grin

I can't stop playing this cd this Christmas holiday -especially when I'm pissed and life is beautiful. I've loved the original lp for decades, but pieces like "The Red Insect" and the Main and End Titles from the original soundtrack bring the whole score to life and round it up beautifully.
When I'm sober I play the new recording of QB VII, which is simply spectacular -even though for obvious reasons I've only been able to listen to it twice so far.

Another huge vote for this one, I really enjoy it (but I ditched the Tristram Cary stuff). I do love yer groovy 60's soundtrack. I hope to have Goldsmith's Flint albums before too long, & maybe Mandell's Harper & Lai's I'll Never Forget What's 'is Name. I do love this one, it's just so catchy, & it's great to listen to the album & then the original score, which sounds great, even on headphones it sounds so good that I forget it's mono after a few seconds.

Put me down as a fan, too. I owned the album many years ago and am now enjoying it again in crystal clear sound.

Definitely one of my favourite Jerry Goldsmith scores.

I never took to the vocal Come the Night by Jimmy Hassell, though. And then I find, on the score, the vocal is by an unnamed female vocalist which is far, far better.

I've searched the booklet but cannot find her name listed (perhaps I'm going blind) and yet it is so obviously the lovely Anita Harris that I wonder why the credit is missing.

I, too, have ignored the Tristam Cary material ... just not music for listening to, IMHO.

SEBASTIAN was from that period when every Goldsmith score was exquisite. You'd await every new effort, thinking you knew how he would approach it, and then he would totally surprise you with his creative take on a film.

Now that we're getting the complete iterations-on-CD of his scores, I appreciate that he remained a composer of exquisite scores--we just never got to appreciate them in their entirety. (Sorry, Thor, but them's the hard facts.)

Well, I ordered it a few days ago and am looking forward to hearing what all the shouting is about!

You'll find yourself back in the sixties wearing a three button tie-dye & flares smile

Rephrase that to: "Well, I ordered it a few days ago and am looking forward to hearing all the shouting about it to be justified".

Stu: I hope it is justified!!! And the same for "QB-VII," which should also be arriving today or tomorrow! ("QB-VII" arrived today.)

And CinemaScope, re "You'll find yourself back in the sixties wearing a three button tie-dye & flares,", nope -- even in the 60s I never wore a three button tie dye or flares!!! Not my style. I've always been more a faded Levi 501s and t-shirt guy, although, in reality, I'm probably more like an unmade bed!

Never saw the film, and never listened to this before now, but I agree that is simply masterful.

Thanks Intrada for this one!

A fab score for sure.

One of the best releases of last year IMO.

Thanks, Intrada for this one.

Intrada could just have released the old LP only. But they did put much effort and research into the project and really closed the book for this playful and charming score. Much appreciated! smile

Among my favorite 10 top scores from Goldsmith. Hesitant at first to get the Intrada disc as was so familiar with the LP, yet Intrada delivered a solid much improved product.

This totally sounds like a British film score.
