Jerry Goldsmith composed the score to ESCAPE FROM THE PLANET OF THE APES, which somehow ended up as published sheet music despite the fact a soundtrack album was not released at the time.
I see the sheet music says Escape from the Planet of the Apes but I don't remember this theme in the score...was it perhaps rejected and used in something else (because it does sound very familiar)? It is lovely though...

It is heard in the cue "Shopping Trip" from ESCAPE/APES and is indeed used in the film for a montage sequence, but in a more pop-oriented vibe. The cue is available on the limited edition album from Varese.

It wasn't the theme, it was as others have said, but the theme is the main title music. Playing that solo on a piano... now that would be interesting.
