Considering some of the boneheads that work at some locations, it's surprising they didn;t mail the letter back marked "Insufficient postage". ;-)
I'd call them up -- the story of where it was and how it finally got to you, would be far more interesting than it just simply arriving 28 years later.
There was no return address on the envelope. But the address too was correct. Thankfully I've never had a lost bill in the mail. In my entire life only one package was never delivered. LLL ID4 complete! LLL sent me another copy free of charge.
figures. Par for the course. I have dealt a lot with these workers. I and others can tell you things you wouldn't believe. They tell you about restaurant workers who dropped food on the floor in the back and then serve it, The things these guys have done in this country [USPO] the world would be shock.
I don't understand why people get so down on USPS. They deliver 160-200 billion pieces of mail each year, and the fact that so few of them are lost or damaged and that so many of them arrive so quickly is a great credit to them. Yes, there are very occasional incidents where things get lost in the mail, or slip between the cracks as in solium's circumstance, but those are such a minuscule percentage of their total volume that I don't understand the disdain. Even if they lost a quarter of a million pieces of mail each week, that would still only be less than 1% of 1% of their total volume. Who among us can claim greater work efficiency than that?
There are so many examples one could give, for something close at home here. The wonderful- USPO lost my collection of FILM SCORE MONTLY in transport somewhere in Illinois.
Then there was the incident where[dig this] mysteriously in transport a box of TV guides I collected was opened when I receive it and the September yearly fall preview issues were gone[worth a lot] but what was there was the regular issues[not worth much]I trust THE USPO as far I can throw them.
The trouble with the USPO is the same trouble with many institutions in this screwed up country.Getting too much for doing too little. Apathy towards the customers. Thinking they can't be fired while they are working etc etcWould love to see these postal workers on the other side of the fence , have them wait on lines when they got other things to do and watch the workers clown around to much at the expense of the customers time.
