I missed this one! It does capture the feel of the film. A lowkey version over the end titles wouldn't have been out of place. But come to think of it that totally desolate feel is best served by that solo guitar. Still Elmer knew how to do these things right.
But Morricone, if you honestly believe that it captures the feel of this dark film, I think we may have seen different versions of "Hud"!!! In no way can I see a serious covering of this song working in that film. which is just fine -- actually BETTER -- without it.
