Elmer Bernstein composed the sparse score to the 1963 Paul Newman classic, HUD. He also wrote this movie tie-in song with lyricist Mack David.

Here singer Stephen Van Dorn sight-reads the catchy tune with pianist Mike Farrell.

That is sooooooooooooooooooooo funny! But I prefer Josh Groban's version. Oh wait -- strike that. Got it confused with another movie song!

But would have hated to see this song in "Hud," which would spoil the effect created by its great director, Martin Ritt.

I missed this one! It does capture the feel of the film. A lowkey version over the end titles wouldn't have been out of place.
But come to think of it that totally desolate feel is best served by that solo guitar. Still Elmer knew how to do these things right.

I just had to watch this again! Such fun!

But Morricone, if you honestly believe that it captures the feel of this dark film, I think we may have seen different versions of "Hud"!!! In no way can I see a serious covering of this song working in that film. which is just fine -- actually BETTER -- without it.
