Mea culpa, I cheated and looked it up (although I did read the book years ago I have no real recollection of it). But what a great description of starting the car and driving away. Great words and actually very applicable to my Jag. It starts with a button (the key stays in my pocket) with a thundering ROAR as the 5.0 comes to life and then simmers down to a throaty growl. It's the best soundtrack ever!

I lived for cars, a real car expert.However now I don't have too much interest in cars, My personal favorite was a 65-chevy-soft top convertible. The one Gary Lewis and the playboys were in on one of their LP covers.
Went for a nice long drive earlier in the glorious sunshine, with the roof down despite Arctic temperatures (couldn't resist - and anyway, that's what heated seats are for, surely - at least, that's what I told my wife). Someone took a picture as I was driving through Bridgnorth, which is not something I've experienced in previous cars.

Stunning car mate, just stunning. How does it handle? My XKR under steers quite a bit because of the power but it doesn't take long to get used to it and adapt driving style accordingly. but the performance is awesome. I stuck it in Sport and Dynamic mode last night coming down the A12 and seriously it just blew me away.
There's a bit of under-steer but I'm chuffed at how well it handles. Haven't gone for Dynamic mode yet - thought I should run it in for a couple of days first! The growl it makes when I put my foot down is something else.
In answer to the original question, no. But one of my goals in life is someday to own a Jaguar hearse like the one Bud Cort drives in Harold and Maude,
