I was unsure whether or where to post this news on the board. But I am so thrilled that I decided to throw caution to the wind. This proud mama is bursting at the seams. Here goes: my son came home yesterday and announced that his band has been offered a recording contract. I have seen this kid and his band mates work their butts off for almost 8 years to get to this place. What I admire about them the most is that they never caved to pressure to change their genre in order to please an audience. They have adjusted as they matured but it was their choice, not the industry that has courted them for awhile now.
The next months will be full of recording, promotion and apparently sponsored touring. It is thrilling to see our children's dreams materialize.
edwzoomom, this is a wonderful moment for you, and your face has been placed into the future. Everything changes now! All of your dreams for your son are coming true RIGHT NOW! THIS IS SO EXCITING!
I understand how you are feeling, because two years ago I received a publishing contract. My book will be released nationally in a month or two, and I find myself on the very same threshold that you and your son are on right now.
Wow, I am overwhelmed by the kind words and warm wishes from everyone. I cannot thank you enough.
When I told my son about the amazing reaction his news received here, he was a bit annoyed with me. Apparently the offer has been extended and the band has accepted BUT the contract has not been signed (lawyers etc..) and has not been officially announced. I guess I wasn't supposed to say anything until it was "official" per their management company. Oops, mom made a mistake.
I will tell you that their genre is very heavy metal and I am not sure that is a genre that is popular here lol. The audience for this type of music is limited but there must enough out there to have convinced this label. Anyway, I promise I will share all of the information as soon as get permission from the son.
What makes this more amazing to my family and I is that this is a young man who has battled health issues all his life and in spite of this has achieved something he has always dreamed about doing.
So again, thank you all SO much and I will keep you posted....
The name of the band is Years Since the Storm and you can find them on iTunes.
Mama, YOU are riding on their DREAM, and I am right there with you!
THIS IS ALL GOOD!
Thank you so much Christopher. I will keep you updated. Your kind words are wonderful to read.
As you can all see, their music is very heavy and perhaps dark? (thanks Josh Mitchell for the video) But I can tell you that these 5 are the most lighthearted, fun loving group when not performing. I have known most of them for quite awhile now and they are like my children. They used to practice in our basement for a few years but finally we had to draw the line on the noise. Our neighbors are grateful.
Thanks again - keep you posted when my sons gives the green light lol.
I haven't been around much lately, so here's a belated congrats to your son, Eee-Dee. And to you too. It's a tremendous pleasure for a parent when their kids accomplish things such as this.
Well, it is officially official. The contract is being signed early this afternoon and the band, label and management company are having a signing party. I have listened to some of the tracks that are going to be on the new release and I actually enjoyed it. Still pretty hard stuff, softer than the previous stuff. My son has done some actual singing on some of the tracks. He is not the "vocalist" (I purposely put that in quotes) on the video that appears here. That tough task belongs to another youn man.
I was really surprised that he can sing quite well. It is amazing what we learn even about our children as they grow, mature and spread their wings.
The journey officially begins. I wish all of you the very best!
