The logical conclusion when making a film about murderous identical twins is to market it with a pop love theme.
Jerry Goldsmith's score to the film is a masterpiece. The song, with lyrics by Thomas Tryon not so much.
Poor Rena Stober, the highly talented singer was thrown off the deep end of the pool when asked to sight-read this with zero rehearsal. Though there are a few off-pitches, we elected not to go back for a second take because, frankly, none of us wanted to hear it again!

Since you guys have already kinda dumped on this and I'm sure many will follow, may I be the lone voice who REALLY likes this. Not as a love song but as a creepy Halloween song. I see the "other" voice and the "other" face in your face? No one can accuse the lyricist of not knowing what the film was about, Tryon wrote the book and screenplay of THE OTHER. And the melody, like many of Jerry's melodies is terrific. This song is everything the film is about. In fact I would go so far as call it a spoiler, while I am still scratching my head about the relevance of "A Piper Dreams" from THE OMEN. Unfortunately creepy songs seem to have no following unless it's a satanic prayer.
I actually loved these lyrics when they were posted in "The Other" thread, and I liked this version of the song. It really doesn't have much to do with the film, no, but it's beautiful and odd. Strober gives it a pretty big "Broadway" treatment, which is nice but a bit too "big" or "grand" for this little [and yes - eerie, gorgeous] song. I for one wouldn't mind listening to this song over and over as it's fine tuned, so if the opportunity ever arises for a version to be produced... ;-)
